I have a really cool idea about vehicles in Free Roam. Instead of spawning a brand new vehicle in mint condition every time, we should be able to "buy" vehicles for Free Roam that we select from a list when spawning vehicles in that mode. Each vehicle in the list shows the mileage it has been driven as well as a basic condition percentage, and a thumbnail (the user presses a certain key while that vehicle is loaded to create it). Essentially these vehicles in the list are special configurations that save the car's bodily and engine damage from the last time they were used, and of course any modifications the player makes to it. They also determine the likelihood of the engine stalling or breaking down based on its mileage. As long as the car does not get totaled (<15% condition), the player has the option to repair the car in My Garage so that the damage is fixed. Totaled cars do stay in the player's garage. How it would look ingame: When a new player starts a free-roam session, they would be asked to choose a vehicle to buy, out of all the configurations that come with the stock game or with their mods. Also there could be generated used cars with varying conditions, mileages, and modifications (a feature probably in Career mode too). Obviously being freeroam, they would have infinite money. And all players of Free Roam can buy any car whenever they want. Below is a rough illustration of what the spawn menu would look like. Notice that you can't just choose whatever car from the vehicle selector and drive off, you have to add instances of cars to your garage that deteriorate and save their conditions throughout all free roam maps. And the car market would be somewhat similar, with auto generated damage, configurations, and maybe even auto generated car listing descriptions. Also what would be super cool is if our free roam garage could sync with our forum profiles, to show off how much we have driven, our cars, and even buy/sell with other BeamNG players. What about even a driver safety rating that is a ratio of distance driven to collisions of any speed. And maybe all this could be optional, and the current vehicle selector could still be kept. I just think this would be fun to have.
Personally I would like this for the upcoming Career feature, but it could also be used in freeroam but not restricted to it.
@minemoose96 sums up my opinion well. I've always thought an system where you could drive used/worn down and/or damaged cars as some sort of generated configs would be an cool thing, but most of the time when i freeroam i want to drive an specific config(s) for just simple racing, photography, or other types of driving. Also if you're developing an mod you wouldn't want this to get in the way.
I think it should be in career. If you have to buy a vehicle to use it in freeroam, that would be a bad idea because you won't have as many options when you're selecting a vehicle. That would just ruin the point of freeroam.
As I said you could buy as many cars as you want with unlimited money in Free Roam. And this could be optional, players could use the current vehicle selector if they wanted to.
I think this is a good idea for career but the problem is if we trade cars everyone would have 50+ damage on their cars and we would ruin it. How do I know this? Because when people drive in beamng drive they drive like an American (which I am) and that's not so good for the cars. --- Post updated --- That bump tho.
