This map brings back memories! It feels well done so far and having an actual city map is a welcomed addition. The only thing that feels off is the friction of the streets. The cars feel like they slide a little more than normal. Looking forward to future updates!
Someone did it!!!! I'm so happy right now! Official Twiglesworth stamp of approval. I suppose I should resume progress on my driver 2 car remakes now
Why... Did I not find this earlier.... MUST DOWNLOAD!!! DRIVER 2 was amazing, too bad it lagged all the time without running it in an emulator :/
Man, this i awesome! I love Driver 2, it was my first ever game, I remeber saving money for a long time to afford a ps1 when I was like 8! Played this for hours upon hours alone or with friends, the cop were totally crazy and the cars were awesome! much different from what we were used to see here in Norway
Highly doubtful as I don't think there's a process for converting assets from Driver Sanfrancisco at this time.
Some people have done the cars before, ala gamemodels.ru, but I'm not sure if the maps can be done the same way.
Dude! So many memories. I remember being a kid playing this on my PS1 on an old portable TV at my grandparents house it used to look so realistic (lol) and being able to get out of the car and walk around was insane and jumping drawbridges. I can still hear the sirens, crash sound FX and the soundtrack. Thank you so much. I feel like I need to climb up in our attic and grab my PS1 again.
Great map, I really enjoyed this, probably more than when I bought the game sooooo many years ago. Those hard angle slopes really sent me a-bouncing. My car looked like SUPER MARIO the way it jumped hitting those inclines, haha. I know it's not your 'fault' because it's the way the map was designed. Sure is fun, though it is a shame there's no waypoints in here to make this work with AI. Feel free to use any of my roadway textures if you need them, I am pretty sure my highway texture in Tennessee would almost match the ones in here pretty well, for the two-lanes-per-side divided avenues that have a two-way one-lane-per-side road texture on them, color and all. I look forward for your future maps, and yes, to answer questions from the person above asking about things cut from the design in a technical standpoint, it goes like this. Ram limitations, video chip limitations, loading speed on CD-ROM... all that is taken into consideration... exponential frame-drop on those older systems if you went over a certain amount of poly's or view-distance was too great, as if there weren't enough blocking walls here made of building faces, and such (that is the reason for them). Where now you have more open realistic environments with LOD's etc, back then, you had a lot of 'walls' in the playable area that you could never see over, that you had to drive around, to avoid system slowdown due to TOO MUCH in view. These blocked the view, making it more like a bunch of neatly organized tunnels than a city, but we still loved our NEW 3D OPEN-WORLD game-play back then. All in all it was quite fun. Just remember, there is a 4096 hard object limit in the maps for this game. If you go over that, the torque engine will refuse to load any more after that. This includes the player and the camera as two objects themselves, also.
I just realized the lisence plate on the cars in the pics. A113. I smell Disney. Sorry for Off topic tho.
I looked through the documentation when I was making this and could only find documentation for making AI drive on decal roads. I couldn't see anything regarding making AI drive on raw geometry which is what this amounts to being.
--- Post updated --- I also second the porting over of drive san fransisco but if it doesn't work it's fine.
0.9 probably broke it. The update made an overhaul on what file is needed for the maps, breaking the map mods. Just like how the 0.8 update broke 95% of the car mods when it was released.
