Yeah, its a British thing. If you want to watch TV you have to pay £145 a year for a TV license. That money goes to the BBC to pay for their advert free broadcasting. Even if you don't watch the BBC you must pay it if you watch any TV channels. You can then also pay for subscription based satellite or cable TV too on top of that. However FreeView and FreeSat both have 95% of channels worth watching (assuming you don't need to watch all sports channels) and as implied by the name don't cost anything. The BBC tend to cover a lot of the major sporting events too with the other primary 5 channels (the 5 channels you could get on terrestrial broadcasting when that existed)also covering some of them.
So the actual BBC doesn't have commercials? I guess that solves the mystery of why episodes of Top Gear are usually right at an hour long. So shut up and take my money! I just did the math, and 145 pounds works out to around $182, and it that is for the whole year, then absolutely shut up and take my money!
Personally I do like the BBC. They are pretty much the only TV channel worth watching unless you are into the naked dating shows and other "edgy" content the other channels air. Plus having no adverts and very minimal window dressing is nice. However none of the UK channels are as bad as the US ones when it comes to filling the screens with obnoxious logo's. If I had a job I would probably get a TV licence. But they don't offer any student discounts and cost 3x the price of Amazon Prime with a student discount and they offer films, music and next day delivery so its difficult for me to justify TV. I think there is a legal requirement to declare that you don't own a TV as well. But I'm not sure that anyone actually does that. They even state on their website that if you declare that you don't need a TV license they may do a house inspection to check you aren't illegally viewing TV. And screw having some people from the TV licensing authority come look around my flat. F... that. --- Post updated --- They should put a greyscale option in iPlayer for plebs like me xD I should also add that if your parents have a license and you own a viewing device that has never been plugged into mains electricity or an aerial you can watch iPlayer without a license. As stated under the "who doesn't need a TV license tab" http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/for-your-home/students-aud1?WT.mc_id=r044&x=0
I'm curious how many channels you get, and how many of those are interesting. I've got something like 1200 channels, but I only actually watch maybe 20, but you can't pay for just those 20, you have to agree to a certain package. Even those 20 are so full of ads its unbearable, and as for the logos, those are usually tolerable, what isn't tolerable, is other TV shows advertising themselves while you're watching another. Example, I'm watching the newest episode of the Walking Dead, I don't want 1/3 of my screen filled up with an advertisement for "Into the Badlands" It's infuriating.
Yeah, we don't have that advertising during a show over here. I think Sky might do it and maybe a freeview channel or two. Here is the list of freeview channels that can be picked up with a normal tv aerial: https://www.freeview.co.uk/why-freeview/channels Here are the FreeSat channels: http://www.freesat.co.uk/channels
We had sky for a few years, depends on the channel but its reasonable on ads, at least when I was watching it 2-3 years ago, just the usual every 15 minutes ad break. It all works good but unbearably expensive, I think it was something like £65-70 a month, so we cancelled that quite a while ago. After using the internet for so long though mid roll ads of any type are just really bothersome to me. We arent stuck with 5 channels here anymore like we used to around 8 years back, so freeview and freesat are the best options.
There are so many ads I've just gone to "questionable" streaming. Technically I can get most the the shows I watch through legit apps, but they have ads, lower quality, and poor buffering so the other ways are better.
Why the heck is Xfinity advertising itself when I'm FREAKING USING WHAT THEY'RE ADVERTISING TO WATCH IT IN THE FIRST PLACE! Remember when channels used to boast about their 1 minute ads? Now you'd be lucky to get a 5 minute ad. TV - 75%ad, 20%crap, and 5%stuff you don't care about anyways. All for only 99.99 a month* *Does not include installation, DVR, on demand, sports channels, internet, phone line, or instant phone support. Who even needs TV? YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, and video games are good enough for me!
Also why does everything have to be so dramatic? I hate it, I hate it so much. A solid half of what I watch is stuff like Fast N Loud, Diesel Brothers, FantomWorks, and the like. The problem with them is they sometimes get so over dramatic, I don't care that someone is running around with a taser, I want to see the damn car. Diesel Brothers isn't as bad, they don't take everything so seriously, but even they've manufactured drama. I remember and episode where they were building a Duramax as their giveaway truck, and the cab "Somehow" caught fire, and also became a slightly different color, and then their "replacement" cab was obviously the original one.
Whoops edit, that's six beeps. Six beeps means real time clock error. Cmos battery might be going dead.
* Copied and pasted from another forum, because I can't be bothered to type more. I was messing around on the computer earlier, with this : https://archive.org/web/ And I actually found a working download link for one of my favorite games I first got when I was maybe 6 or 7, and played the piss out of for years after, 4x4 Evo 2, I had the original, but it wasn't very long before I found the second one, which had more stuff, and was therefore better. Something I didn't notice until I played it again, though I vaguely remember my dad mentioning it way back when, is that there are no Fords. I'm not sure if they couldn't get licensing or what, but Ford is totally absent in the game. Yes, I'm just wee little lad with all you old shits. Besides maybe Dueling and Ryden2fire. It actually had a really detailed career mode, with alot of vehicle customization, with real licensed stuff like Skyjacker, Warn, Interco, and other stuff. Videos, of aforementioned game.
I am putting a hold on my mods again, as I have really been hit by a sad event. My rabbit, Tangmere, had to be put down tonight. He went peacefully in his sleep. He was always there for me for the best part of 3 years. I am glad that he went painlessly, and that he is in a better place now, but still am devastated to have lost him.
I have been trying to download an iso file to use with a ps2 emulator but it has been taking forever! Fuck i wish my internet was faster! Still didn't manage to finish. would it be possible for someone to split this file into quarters as it would be more manageable and show me how to merge them together thanks.
