I'm thinking of making a hybrid version of the official cars like the ETK 800, Hirochi SBR4, Sunburst and so on. I got the idea from the 0.8 update changelog.

Multiple engines? As in 2 or more engines in 1 car? You could make the holy trinity cars in here (or a trash can :p). I tried adding thrusters. Quick at moving forwards, excellent economy but could barely reverse above 5 MPH. Anyways, I'd like to start by editing the existing codes in a vehicle transmission jbeam to not only change gears but also function as a second engine (like the Germans' GTE). Then, add a custom trigger button to change drive modes between engine only, full electric and hybrid.

I need a team to do this. I can somewhat do jbeam but I need someone who is more experienced to assist me. Later on, if this works, I need someone who can do Blender too (and probably some testers too?). Continue to give suggestions and PM me to join the team :)

It's entirely possible but one would think you'd need to get creative.

Yea, I think I heard someone say somewhere that you can have more than one engine, but each engine must power its own set of wheels... that's what they said anyways, I have clearly never tested this.

So it would be like a gas engine to the front wheels and an electric motor to the rears or something like that...

What the changelog mentions is that the groundwork for such powertrain layouts is now done, so they can be realized without using ugly hacks and stuff.
However, you'd still need to implement quite a bit of custom code for it to work.

First of all you'd need an electric motor that fits the hybrid layout, this will be most likely either one that is in series with the main combustion engine or dedicated motors for example at the front wheels and the combustion engine connected to the rear wheels.
The second case doesn't require new devices.

The second part is the controlling logic. The standard vehicle controller has no idea about the concept of a hybrid, so it's not usable for this task.
Instead you need to create your own controller, tailored to this specific task.

None of this is magic, just a bit of work.

It would be nice if someone at some point could make a tutorial of creating custom vehicle controller, I'm sure some have figured it out and it might allow quite a lot of new stuff to be created.

I'm just gonna put this on hold and wait for BeamNG to post an update that includes a hybrid car :)

As an actual Prius driver, I'd love to have a hybrid car in my driving game. That way I won't feel guilty about wasting virtual gasoline. :p

Advantage: It costs $25 to fill up the tank.
    Disadvantage: It's a Prius.
It was my parents' car, then they gave it to me. What was I supposed to do? Say no?

It's a 2010 Prius with less than 80,000 miles on it. Also, I live in California, so it's actually a perfectly acceptable car to drive here.

Prius is just fine for a daily driver, you always need to have a daily and the fun car, attempts to have fun daily are doomed to fail.
