So I saw NerdCubed play this and it looked fun, so I downloaded the demo and played. However, and I understand the game is still in its alpha, it was pretty choppy. My rig meets moderate requirements, and even then I could barely get 20 or 30 fps on low settings. I really like this game and I would like to support and buy as I am getting a 660 TI soon, but I was wondering if there's a slight chance it could be windows 8 or 8.1. I've had it where I surpass requirements for a game but it's poorly optimized for Windows 8 and it runs horribly. Any and all input is appreciated
First of all, 760>660Ti. BeamNG is more CPU intensive than GPU intensive. While I'm sure a 660Ti will improve your FPS over whatever you have now, there's a certain point where you'll need to get a faster CPU. Post your specs.
Alright: Intel i7 3770 3.4ghz (3.9ghz turbo boost) 8GB DDR3 1600mhz memory 1TB 7200 RPM SATA HDD OEM Nvidia GeForce GT 640 1GB GDDR5 Windows 8.1 (Just upgraded to 8.1!)
When you open settings, uncheck the enable postfx in the box to the left. If you havent already done so that should give you a sizable boost.
Alright thanks, I'll try that. What does it do? - - - Updated - - - Yeah... wow. Much smoother. However, whenever I try to exit mission, it freezes and I have to close the program. This also happened before turning postfx off however. Any fix for that?
I think there are quite a few glitches that occur when exiting to menu to change map. It's better to just exit and restart. Also, the postfx add effects to make it look better at the expense of FPS. (SSAO being the biggest FPS sucker)
Thanks for the info guys! So I guess it's just postfx not W8 thankfully. Looks like BeamNG Drive has my money!
Yeah, PostFX make the game look about 3-5% better while detonating your video card in the process. Not much is lost by disabling them. I personally keep them on, but only because my GTX 760 DirectCU II can take the extra load. (BTW I'd look at getting a non-reference MSI, Gigabyte or ASUS GTX 760, they slightly outperform a 660 Ti for about $40 less assuming you're paying for a new one.) Back when I had my GTX 260 I had no problem with turning off the PostFX.
On my desktop I run an athlon 2 X3 at 3.4ghz with an NVidia GTX460 (as suggest above, non reference model, slight overclock from EVGA). Hardly a cutting edge rig with phenom replacing the athlon and in turn replaced by the FX series chips of which we're a few generations into those too 460 of course replaced by 560, 660 and now the 760. So yeah, not the most powerful thing on the planet, but still has the grunt to get through most games perfectly fine compared to a system running integrated graphics. It is running windows 8.0, havent updated to 8.1 yet. PostFX enabled, lags like hell. Argue with the window over whether I am clicking the button to disable postFX or not for a little while, eventually get it to turn off, runs like a dream. The game is damn beautiful without PostFX. Depth of field I certainly dont miss, I call depth of field "my character needs glasses simulation". HDR was cool, but I can live without.
I have windows 8.0 right now. Phenom 965 x4 Nvidia gtx 660 4 gb ddr2 ram Runs beam ng just fine, not ultra settings but high settings.
GT 640 is definitely too slow of a GPU for the game; otherwise your rig is solid Windows 8 shouldn't be a problem either.
Tell that to my laptops intel HD4000 In all seriousness. I know you meant at decent settings, on my laptop I have everything except texture quality at lowest. Texture quality doesnt seem to impact performance at all and for some reason it not being high crashes the game when loading the skatepark or skateboard mods and the silverado mod
Call me crazy, but while I turn off all the other pFX, I keep SAAO. Otherwise the game looks flat. My videocard isn't really strong enough to handle it, but I squeak out 40fps with maxed out settings @1280x1024. Takes quite the oc though, 1141/1444 vs the stock 1000/1125. Is there a current gen equivalent to the 7770 on nvidas side or is the 650ti about it? EDIT; That was a reply to pulley999. Just saying it is possible with a sub $100 card on a lower resolution.
SSAO is the biggest fps sucker of all the options. I recommend you turn it off and increase other settings. As for my 5.4ghz A8 and overclocked gtx 650ti boost I can play max settings with postfx. I think I have ssao turned off.
lol, okay show her this. Hit start, then go to run. If you have windows 8 right click what use to be the start button and hit run. Type dxdiag and hit ok, on the top click the display tab, and under "chip type" is the video card. Keep in mind however the gtx 770 is not the only option. There are cheaper alternatives like the gtx 660 that I personally have which is perfectly capable of running this game at high settings. And now that I said that I doubt you will ever read this message, but if you do then awesome! Your son is being honest and maybe you could help pay for the gtx 770 after he does plenty of chores for a while.
May as well. It is true that the gt seies of cards (vs the GTX series) is usually meant as a card to add a screen to two, not as a gaming card. If you are looking for an upgrade you have 4 tiers performance wise, with individual cards having different pricing.
