Yes, it's probably been requested a million times already. But y'know. Slippery on the road when snowy, a little less easy to grip when raining... you get it The weather should be controllable by the user, and there should be a windshield wiper option. (A button for int, slow, and fast)
I believe this could be possible. Some programs I know of that have something similar to this is Virtual Sailor, and its related programs Vehicle Simulator, and Micro Flight. All three of them have adjustable weather conditions, along with a forecast option, and an adjustable date and time system (however the date system seems to be broken). I definitely believe that BeamNG could learn something from these three programs.
Virtual Sailor, VS, and MS? Wow, I don't think those games would have ever been even a little relevant. That's a new one!
I agree with you on the customizable weather, and wipers. If those was implemented, I could recreate the February 5-6, 2010 blizzard my area got, which was just godawful visibility and nonstop snowfall.
The problem is that Torque3d (the graphics engine) doesnt support weather effects. I think proper weather effects would come in 2-4 years, because they need to fix many things in torque3d (even the lights dont work properly yet).
When we got our stupidly rare 1.8 inches of snow three years ago, the interstate looked like a ghost town. And by snow I mean about 75% iced over.
My area rarely gets over 6" for an entire winter season. Here's the most snow we've gotten on record on a single day...
Ever been here? It snows from Dec. 20- April 2 last year, it can be miserable... Anyhow, yeah, it could be a good idea
Here are some screenshots I took in VSF that demonstrates the idea. A little something close to home. I get what your saying, but this idea doesn't seem to be as complicated as some may think. I don't know what engine these programs operate on, but I don't think a weather system is impossible. In VSF, the weather effects (snow, hail, rain, which are very small texture files BTW) are all attached to the camera, so whenever you move, the weather effects move with you. In VS however, it will remain in one place if the simulation is frozen. They both have an option called hide water in cabin, which will disable water and weather effects appearing inside whatever vehicle you are controlling. However, I think BeamNG's developers would work their way around this, perhaps some programming that's similar to the option to hide apps with the dash camera? Anyone who has played these simulations may know what I'm talking about when it comes to how the weather system works. Think about it, wouldn't be cool to drive down a map, like let's say ECA for example, and you see flashes of lightning (which would be a simple 2D texture file that appears at random) in the distance? Along with some rainfall to top it all off? Other programs I know of that has weather effects is those 18 Wheels of Steel games. The idea of BeamNG.drive getting a weather system similar to these programs is making me feel good. It's these examples that make me believe that it's not impossible.
