Here's a list of things which I think should be priorities in the making of BeamNG. -Scratching paint This would make the game a lot more realistic, which is saying something -Windows that actually shatter, get punctured etc. You see it in movies, a car crashes into another one and the windows shatter all over the place (e.x. National Treasure), or (e.x. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) a tree limb goes through the window and there's a hole. -Dust that doesn't go through stuff It's really annoying when you're driving on a dirt road or a beach or something and you stop, and the car fills with dust -Environment interaction This is really quite an important thing, and we're already at v7.0.2 and you still get grass poking up through the bottom of your car, and water passing through your car like it isn't there, and no tyre marks on the dirt or sand. -More simple versions of cars for AI This is less important, but it would be good for people who don't have NASA spec computers. There could be simpler versions of the cars which you could spawn in for the AI to drive. They would have very little impact on performance so you could have lots of traffic driving about. It's like this in Need for Speed games, as well as ETS2, ATS, and probably many more car games. -AI which knows where the central line is At the moment, the AI just drives wherever it wants to on the road. You should be able to set it to drive on the left, the right, or just like how it is now. -AI follow mode You should be able to set the AI to follow you at a certain distance. And after all that.... Then more cars, props, and maps. Particularly minivans, more pickups, SUVs, vans, lorries, prairies, English countryside. I know there's rather a lot in this thread, but it's under one topic.
Most of your suggestions are things that would not only be hard to impossible to add and would also eat performance, which is a bit ironic considering one of your suggestions is about improving performance with huge sacrifices in realism. Just because you see it in movies doesn't make it accurate, do you also want massive explosions from the tankers carrying diesel or gas the moment they bump into something?
I know, but some older car windows do break like that. And it would be cool. As for massive explosions, that would be really annoying and is too far from reality. It's just some ideas, and the less good cars might be good for BeamNG movies, as long as you don't look at them for too long. It could just be a mod (in which case it shouldn't really be here) --- Post updated --- Alright, the most important/most doable things in this list are the paint scratching, glass, dust, AI follow mode and knowing which side of the road to drive on, horns and maybe even alarms, which I forgot to mention. The rest is just speculation
I wouldn't say that some of these suggestions would be prioritized. Some of them are even minor details. In don't think it will happen. The game strives for real time realistic physics and this idea is just not that.
Alright, the most important/most doable things in this list are the paint scratching, glass, dust, AI follow mode and knowing which side of the road to drive on, horns and maybe even alarms, which I forgot to mention. The rest is just speculation Yeah, that idea is sort of rubbish
Which one of those is anywhere near "impossible"? A lot of those things have been done by much older games and without noticeable performance impact. Oh c'mon, other than windshields sometimes shattering like nothing (which OP wasn't even suggesting), glass is mostly handled realistically in movies. It really seems like you're just trying to find things to complain about :/ EDIT: Spelling
Radman and evil sheep dude, you guys clearly have nonodea of the mechanics behind this game and how other games simulate those principles. I suggest you do some research to see how paint scratching and the other things work. The alarms, horn and AI improvements will most likely come in the future but at the moment the devs clearly have much more important things to work on and finish. Download Stinchenstien's more features mod if you want horns and go play GTA if you want paint scratching.
many of the things mentioned here are pretty unimportant given the current state of the game. but i have to say i would love to see paint scratching coming sometime in the future. minor collisions and scraping along walls doesnt cause any visible damage otherwise - which is a shame in the game with the most realistic crashes i have ever seen. a simple "scratched" texture that appears at the point where you touch a wall would be enough imo. edit: i also think that vegetation clipping through the car is an immerson breaker which is why i mostly drive on the raceway track and grid map. but i dont know how hard it would be to make a plant inivisible when it clips through a car.
I want to play GTA but I can't afford it right now, and I already have the more features mod, but the horn is really weird and the car alarm doesn't work. And you're right, I have no idea of the mechanics behind games --- Post updated --- Also, something else I forgot to mention, the mirrors. They don't actually show what's behind them, they just show what's behind the car. And the middle mirror is stretched. :/
I think a lot of the problem here, is that the game is built on an outdated engine. Torque3D is being pushed to it's limits already and it's very challenging to add all this cool new stuff without murdering your frame rate. If we had stuff like Vulkan support and (I'm not sure if this is already a thing for BeamNG.drive, but PhysX) and all those nice, fancy new API's (including DirectX 12), that'd help out with performance a lot, but we just don't... Torque3D is falling behind a bit with API support and all. Engines like Unreal Engine 4 support these things easily, but not Torque3D. Unreal Engine 4 has a ton of it's own downsides that make Torque3D a better choice however, such as cost... UE4 tries to trick you with it's cost...
