    Possibility > Popularity

You're undertaking a very, very ambitious project; I hope you can pull it off. I'm not entirely sure if Drive can handle hovercrafts without exploding, but given how meticulously the physics is done, I'm certain it'll be possible after some tinkering.

Would`nt something like that require a wind resistance model which I don`t think the T3D Engine(within BngDrive that is) has such.

At least from my observations it does`nt.

Should be possible. One of the members on the forum has made a hoverplane thingy I believe. You can use rotators and submesh triangles as thrusters. That would lift the vehicle off the ground. If you're able to tune it enough it should be possible to make it hover. Then just add another thruster on the back for forward thrust. Only thing that might be hard is the steering, since the wind/air isn't actually thrusted/channeled through the propellor, so just putting a small rudder right behind the propellor wouldn't actually have as much steering effect as it would in real life.

It would probably need 3 or 4 downwards thrusters(either 2 on the back, 1 on the front, or 1 on each corner) to get it to stabilize... Plus I don't know if it would work on water?...

Nice idea, I kinda want to try to do one myself too now :p

Its perfectly possible right now. I made a landspeeder/hovercraft thing for RoR using low friction balls of nodes to simulate the skirt. Its able to get over things like kerbs, bumps and rocks much better than the designs that rely on sensor nodes because they tend to get snagged on rough surfaces.

Attached some pics so you can see how its done, there is a download somewhere on the RoR forums too.

Edit; I should point out that this just simulates the feel of a hovercraft, and is never going to be 100% accurate. The effect becomes more realistic the more balls you use and the lower there inertia, BeamNG is more suited to this than RoR so if anyone should try this it will work brilliantly. Maybe use some small radius fans as thrusters and do away with fins since the submesh aerodynamics isn't ideal.
