Hello I was wondering is it common for the tech demo to be laggy on a computer because I wanted to get the alpha on my laptop but if it is going to be like that I'm afraid I might waste my money. my computer is a Lenovo idea pad Y700-15ISK with a Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB VRAM, 8GB of RAM
Strange. Should run perfectly fine on your machine. Have you checked if the game is using your NVidia card? It could be using your integrated graphics (HD530 I think). You can always force the game to use the NVidia card by right-clicking the BeamNG.Drive shortcut, click on 'use graphics processor...' and select your GTX960M.
I switched it manually though through the settings about 2 months ago when I got it I'll try it but do you think I should get the geforce experience and maybe that will help?
No, that is not normal. You may need to make sure that your laptop isn't entering into any sort of power saving or thermal throttling modes.
I checked and it says it running the NVidia gpu and it's not thermally throttling because I just played world of warships on max setting and my pc was just fine
um I don't know the fps I think its like 10-15fps on high but the game auto detects my settings --- Post updated --- its like15 to 20 on lowest settings.
This game uses 1 core (actually 1 thread as far as I know) per vehicle. This means that single core performance is the most important. 2.6 ghz just isn't enough. There is no way around it.
There is more to single core performance than clock speed, but I seriously doubt you could find a 2.2 ghz LAPTOP cpu that could run the game. I said what I said because of the fact that he is using a laptop. Maybe I should have clarified that.
While you have a bit of a point, the fact is that he has one of the best and newest laptop processors. It should be able to run the game perfectly fine. Something else is wrong.
I'm at 2.3GHZ and have 40-50fps with the default pickup so it's not the cpu, moreover, modern intel cpus have turbo boost so it's like never at 2.2ghz in game (i dont have turbo boost)
You did not follow Nadeox1's instructions. Press F to show FPS. Press J and report whether FPS goes up.
Your laptop is quite powerful for laptops and shouldn't have that small FPS amounts normally. My laptop has i5-5200u and 840m and runs gridmap on mixed low-normal settings at around 40-60fps with one car (depends which one). As far as I know, tech demo hasn't been updated for quite a while and there have been significant optimisation updates in the full version of the game, meaning that FPS figures in full game should be considerably higher. Depending on laptop, running on battery can significantly decrease FPS. Make sure you play with charger connected. Try to press J in-game. It freezes physics(cuts processor load by some) and if FPS go up, then the CPU is the problem. For example, 15FPS in gameplay, 40FPS when you freeze physics. If FPS doesn't go up (stays 15), it's the GPU.
I I bought a Lenovo Y700 to upgrade from my Lenovo Y500 and I had the same exact problems as you the laptop just refused to play the game well and I got 20 FPS at max, I never actually got the solution so I ended up selling it and bought a Asus ROG GL552 same exact specs except I have a 2gb GTX 960m and guess what the game runs perfectly at 40-60 FPS on high. I recommend trying to update your Graphics Card Driver and see if that works.
