I think it would be awesome if I could have an airplane be AI controlled. This is because then I can have demolition derbies in the air or police chases in the air.
I was thinking something along these lines as well. The first thing you'd have to do is make the vehicle identify itself as an airplane. Unless you'd want to list all of the possible individual airplane mods (two or three at the moment), you'd need to add a simple property to the vehicle's files to mark it as an aircraft. From there, it would need to shift into the appropriate gear to gain speed (or taxi turn so as to takeoff in the correct direction), pitch up, and from there, carefully monitor its pitch, yaw, roll, airspeed, and altitude. Also, due to the aircrafts' speed, the system would need to learn to aim ahead of its target rather than at its target. Just in case anyone's got the wherewithal to see something like this through to the end, the AI is controlled through BeamNG-Drive-XX/lua/system/simpleAI.lua
