Does anyone know how many CPU cores BeamNG can utilize? I have a server computer with 2X AMD Opteron 2435 (six cores each, 12 cores total) and I'm considering making an attempt to run it but want to know if it's going to use more than 4 or 6 of those cores. I already have a custom pc I built a few years ago that runs the game fine, but want to see what I can get this old beast to do just for fun.
Each vehicle is its own thread, theoretically, all 12 cores will be used. 1 vehicle wont use more than 1 core though.
I've read other posts that stated the same thing, but I'm not sure that it's true. I know for sure my quad-core gaming rig has the load spread evenly across all 4 cores even with 1 car. But I'm afraid it won't do that on a computer with an insane number of cores. Well, there's only one way to find out, I'll just have to try it. Also, I haven't actually bought those cpu's for the computer yet, because I was researching to make sure those are the fastest ones compatible with it (which they are). But I'm pretty confident It'll work alright.
If you are seeing load on all 4 cores, its because a) the game has its render and game logic threads too, not just that 1 vehicle, plus you have over 10000 threads running from windows alone in the background, plus things like steam, antivirus, maybe skype and browsers? 1 vehicle cannot share across cores
tbh the opterons wont work well anyway, their single threaded isnt that great, even compared to other AMD parts and they are clocked low. Wont do too great.
