First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong section and ill move it if that's the case. Second of all, I have a gaming PC i built myself for under $1000 so nothing to write home about in the beginning. I am however slowly upgrading it as I get the money. For example, I just last week upgraded my graphics card to an EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 Super Clocked and my next planned upgrade is an i7 of some sort as i'm still doing research. Now, I can run games like JC3 on max settings with no issues at 100 FPS and up but when I move to beamNG especially with the Vehicle Reflections turned on I only get like 20 FPS and its not even close to taxing my graphics card which is what I would expect. Is the god awful FPS just from me only having an i5 (A higher end i5 but an i5 nonetheless) Or is there something I don't know about besides the fact that beamNG likes to use CPU resources?

    Anyway thanks in advance,

    Liam.

So you've got a GTX 1080 and an i5... that should be enough to max out the game, but in terms of dynamic reflections it's nearly impossible on any hardware to max out the dynamic reflection sliders. Set the DR sliders to either the lowest or second lowest notch and it should work fine.

What resolution are you playing at? A 1080 should be overkill for 1920x1080 and even 2560x1440 but not really at 3840x2160.

I have a crappy old 22 ish inch flat screen monitor that has some strange unorthodox resolution that I desperately need to upgrade but since all my money is in the 1080 I don't quite have the funds yet. Ill take your advice though and move the sliders down a bit.

    Thanks,

    Liam.

Could you post a picture of your settings, like this?

Yeah lower those dynamic reflection sliders to the lowest or second lowest setting. Especially faces per update, there's even a warning ingame that they destroy framerate. It's just not possible to have those settings maxed out, as it's basically a complete re-rendering of the entire scene just for the reflection cubemap.

That made a huge difference, Thanks. On the other hand, i'm not sure why but I still get FPS drop to between 47 and 55 FPS on certain parts of maps or when looking in certain directions particularly on East Coast USA. And on all maps I get occasional REALLY bad FPS drops when crashing and the like. I am guessing that's a CPU issue though because it doesn't even come close to making my 1080 sweat. I am aware that this game really leverages on individual core power so I am planning to upgrade to a 4790K devils canyon in the very near future. as you have one, do you think that will make a difference?

    Thanks,

    Liam.

No, there's something wrong there. I have the same resolution and settings, a GTX 970 and (had, just upgraded) an i5 4690 non-k and it never went below 60 FPS (vsync) on any map, anywhere; without vsync, I got anywhere from 90 at best to 70 FPS at worst - you have twice the graphics horsepower compared to me and more or less the same CPU. You don't need to upgrade, your computer is more than powerful enough. Have you:

-made sure your power plan is set to High Performance?
-made sure your CPU, GPU and other components are not overheating?
-uninstalled and reinstalled your graphics drivers?
-ensured your graphics drivers are up to date?
-ensured nothing is running in the background?
-ensured your CPU and GPU are not underclocked by accident?

Otherwise, I'm a bit out of ideas. There's something going on here, I'm going to mention @Nadeox1 as this is an clearly a support issue.

    Good luck!

Thanks man ill check all those things when i get home. My gpu i know doesent run at over 68 degrees Celsius and the hottest i have ever made it get was 75 but that almost never happens and i just updated my graphics drivers. not sure on my cpu though, ill have to check that out. The strange thing is its only for beamNG. I can run a game like jc3 or forza motorsports apex at maximum settings at well over 60fps so im not sure what the deal is. The only thing i can think of is i had a virus a while back but im pretty sure i got it taken care of. Ill maybe try reinstalling windows. Other then that,

Im just as confused as you are.

    Thanks,

    Liam.

i get 40-55fps in 1440p with dynamic reflections maxxed out. All of my other settings are maxxed out too. Which 1080 did you get? Mine's a FTW from EVGA

Dynamic Reflections will spit on your FPS.
They are not FPS friendly, not matter what GPU you use it seems.
Keep 'Updates per Face' low (a little warning will show when it's too high).

Yes they hurt framerates, but he said he lowered them as I suggested and he's still dropping into the 40s at 1920x1080. With a GTX 1080, you should expect 40 FPS with dynamic reflections maxxed out and the resolution at 2560x1440, so something is clearly wrong because at the same settings my GTX 970 is getting better framerates.

    Which i7? Maybe it's a CPU bottleneck?

    To make sure:
Load any map you have this issue on (do not move the camera or the vehicle)
Go to options > gameplay > enable 'Advanced Mode'
In the sidemenu there should be a new button named 'PERFORMANCE'
Press it and let the graphs fill the screen.
Press ALT+O and paste the link for the image here.

After reading everything, what i have to say is:
1st- The dynamic reflections are not optimized to their full potential yet, so as randomshortguy said, reduce it to the 1st of 2nd notch.

2nd- It's getting a bit evident (for me) the possibility of the GPU being bottlenecked by the CPU.
There's a simple way to test that:
Get any software that has a gpu/cpu usage percentage overlay(can't remember which i use) and start a GPU intensive game, if the GPU usage is NOT at 99% (or 100%), your GPU is being bottlenecked by the CPU.
