Weird Peformance Behavior with T-Series

    Hello everyone,

I experienced a heavy frame drop when I place a T-Series and a trailer. In most cases the FPS drops from 60 to 40 FPS when I replace a normal car with the truck and from 40 to 20 FPS when I add the trailer. With any other combination (that does not include the T-Series) the Framerate is stable at 60 FPS.

Now I thought, that the truck is so complex that it sucks out my CPU, so I opened the Resource Monitor and watched the cores and expected one to be at 100%. But instead there are just two cores that are at half of there capacity. Then I thought it might be caused by the GPU. So I turned off dynamic reflections, then turned overall quality to low then to high. The result: Always the same framerate. In addition to that the workload of the graphics card changed, but was never more than half of its capacity.

What is causing this behavior? Can I do something to improve the performance while driving the T-Series? Or do I have to wait for some kind of performance update?

    PC specs:
    Intel Core i7-4790k
    8GB Ram
    GeForce GTX 970 (OC)

Hey there, seems like cpu temp throttling to me... 99 degrees on the CPU is not safe at all, check your cooling.
    Do you have overclock?

Hugely overheating your CPU there, well in excess of the safe limits.

Yea I would agree with that, this also explains why your CPU is not running at its maximum frequency...

Oh, that's an old problem, that is not a real problem (as I see it). I'm not overclocking. The temperature is always extremely height. Even in idle its at 50°C-60°C and when I watch a Youtube video it rises to 80°C-90°C. But at these temperatures a normal CPU would turn off and this never happened to me. In addition to that the temperature jumps to 99°C when I start a game. So to sum it up: This display is bullshit. I think the motherboard's CPU thermometer is defect.

Ps: The attached picture was taken while watching a Youtube video.

Well either the thermometer is defected or the fan is actually not working. Your CPU seems to throttling anyway. Could you please check if all the fans are spinning properly?

Yes, the fan is spinning and the pump is pumping.

Pump is pumping? What watercooler do you have then? Is it sealed properly?

Well, that cooler should keep your running CPU way cooler. What about thermal paste? Did you apply thermal paste, if yes, did you do it correctly? I know it may sound obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people simply forget.

In your photos, the CPU is underclocking, showing that yes, your temperatures *ARE* an issue

I just looked at it and it looks fine. There is thermal paste. I used the included paste. There is no protection left on the cooler block.

I will try another game that is hard to run and check the CPU's load to ensure that there is no throttling.

    EDIT:

I did a test: Rescaling the browser window as fast as I can:

Hm, strange. Can I ask what game it was?

The shown temperature is still incredibly high.. please download CPUZ and take a screenshot of it while load.

I see you have a liquid cooler - I would beware about those temps even with a LC mainly because I used to have a Corsair H100i for my i5-3570k and one day I noticed the computer acting real choppy and sure enough, my CPU temp was pegged at the thermal throttle limit. Even though you have a LC, I wouldn't throw out the possibility of it having an internal leak somewhere causing these absurd temperatures. If worse comes to worst, just throw on the stock intel cooler for a while until you get your thermal issues sorted.

It was no game. As I said I rescaled the browsers window really quick (always pushes the CPU to its limits ;))
I tried mutiple softwares - all with the same result. Even the UEFI shows these temps.

I am running this rig since half of a year now and never experienced a leak or something.
But: At the very first few starts the PC turned of after a few minutes, because I forgot to plug in the power for the pump . Since then I had never had an accident.

I bought the tray version, without a cooler.

Weird. What about voltages? There is a possibility that your motherboard is somehow messing up with that and that's causing the extreme temperatures

And yeah, the rescale pushes the cpu to the limits, but just for splitsecond. So no time to thottle.

May I ask how much thermal paste you applied? This kind of issue can easily be caused by using way too much paste.
I'd recommend taking of the WC block, cleaning everything from paste and reapply it with fresh paste.
Have a look around Youtube for tons of good tutorials on how much paste to use etc. :)

    1st: GTA V after 10 min gameplay.
2nd: City Skylines after 10 min gameplay.

Unfortunately there is no display for CPU voltage, just power.

Yup overheating, which likely means pump or fan aint running properly, too much thermal paste or forgot to peel the clear sticker off the heat sink. You are overheating

I got 641. So yep, I am convinced. I really thought it was the motherboard ....
