Those were uploaded before we got indications about copyrighted content. That's how those mods also gets taken down. Thank you for notifying us.
You read correctly. Now that @nobadesuuchan notified us about those mods, which were updated prior the 'copyright-rules' thing, we are obligated to take them down. Until the author removes the branding at least (or uploads them on our forum). Thank you @nobadesuuchan
Brands/Trademarks are the problem. For example, to fix the Crown Victoria, I will more likely remove 'Ford' brands. The same thing Jali did on his mod: http://www.beamng.com/resources/capri-turbo-group-5-race-car.346/ So yeah, if the brands are gone, the mod is acceptable. Else use our forums, we all the responsibilities are upon the user, not us.
I feel like the mod upload section should now have a short description and example of copyright infringement now. Maybe on the file selection page. Not to be offensive, and I apologize if you receive it that way, but people seem to not know exactly the details of copyright and the possible punishments. Honestly, it would be very sad to see a hungry corporation file a law suit on this prospering project - or game if you will - just because the humans make a human error. And for the record, I think OP can't determine what copyright is.
Thank you, we were thinkering about that the other day. We will definitively make changes into that, to make people more aware that the MODS page is following exact rules, because we are obligated by law, while the forum is a tad more open to those things.
Wouldn't it be okay to name it e.g. "Bord" and put "Bord" badges with a slightly modified Ford font on it, and similar things with the other mods? Also, here is a cold beer for you *hands over beer*
Everything has been answered, so yes. And I have to apologize as I let my emotions get the best of me. I really acted like a selfish brat when it came to this whole situation. Thank you guys for saying everything, because what you guys said was a slap in the face for my ego, which made me realize what I had done. Even though this topic got out of hand, we talked about copyright, and discussed issues with copyright on the mod page, so I guess it isn't all bad is it?
there is not a single discussion that's bad. Every time a group of people gather and talk about something only good things may result
maybe make a flag system and then when an admin has time to check the mod and decides if its fair or not fair (please dont hate me for this idea)
No hate, absolutely. That's basically reinventing the 'report' button, pretty much not needed. If something is not right, we are not hard to reach.
Slightly off topic, but would the report button be a good way to have a post deleted without repercussions? Such as if someone posts something on the wrong thread or similar.
I also think it's a good idea to have more clarification on what constitutes copyright infringement. I didn't know branded vehicles weren't allowed until now. Where do you draw the line? A real-world taxi or police skin or even license plate design is technically held under copyright by a corporate entity on some level.
Yep. Use it whenever there is something that requires our attention (Just don't abuse it pls) That's why we said copyright is a very complex thing. There isn't a clean line between what you can and what you can. We try to avoid what is an obvious trademark/copyright infringement, to avoid issue for the company and the user. But for nitpick stuff, things are out of our reach. Just avoid having trademarks and stuff like that.
