I'm pretty sure the button icons aren't finalized, they said they were trying to make the UI more game like and the buttons they had there aren't gamelike at all, either way it seems like something that would be easy to change later on if the community complains too much about it.

Yeah I don't know about steering wheels, but I have a PS controller design and it still uses the same xbox buttons.

As Krayziepunk says the modeling and damage is far beyond anything else out there at the moment, and consiquently so is the physical modeling of chassis flex and so on but in terms of realism Rfactor and iRacing have it beat by a slowly shrinking, but considerable margin. This is mainly due to the much more advanced track surface and tire modeling the games offer, as well as to an extent better aerodynamics and racing suspensions. The tire models in those games, specifically Rfactor is amazing, it does everything beam's does (except having deformable rims) while also including very complex heat and wear simulating, plus the track surface is dynamic and will track rubber depositing on a track surface, marbling on track/tires, heat of track etc etc etc. I could go into this further but I will instead give a reminder that both those games are very focused racing simulators with a lot of development behind them, while beam in its own regaurd is an amazing game it is not a pure racing sim as those games are... yet anyways.
Personally I would put Beam a bit behind a game Like Assetto Corsa in its current state, though with some tire and suspension optimization, as well as proper implementation of brake thermals & wear, along with at least a decent simulation of tire wear and heat Beamng could at least compare to Assetto Corsa, and most likely surpass it in terms of "realism", though I dont think beam will surpass it in its Aerodynamic simulation since its one of the best out there at the moment. Driving feel is pretty hard to beat in Assetto Corsa as well, even if the game is not always purely realistic it does have an incredible force feedback system, although with the current update the FFB in beam is very, very good.

As a summary Beam has potential to come close to games like iRacing or Rfactor in terms of sim quality, but is held back by using a tire model that is not perfectly round ;The tire model is very very good, better than any other game with damagable rims but its polygonal nature keeps it from being 100% accurate. props to the dev team for getting it to where it is though, its probably one of the biggest feats of the game's engineering. Secondly the aerodynamics in beam, while being good feel like they need some improving to be close to any of the other race sims on the market, though i would assume the nature of beam's "beam" based design makes them difficult to be perfect.

Please don't take any of this against beam, remember its still in alpha and has much more to offer in the future, but its not perfect... yet. fingers crossed for beam to become (more of a) proper racing sim though, among the many other things it can do.

also.. wet dream: beam's physics engine, Assetto Corsa's aerodynamics & FFB and a tire model compareable to Rfactor's tire model... getting all moist thinking of that...

WOW is all i can say. This game has come along way. This game is great platform for like every racing game in the future because of the crash physics. the garage looks awsome! SLRR and Car Mechanic Simulator rolled into one (just saying....). Opening car doors and hoods is the way to go. a Detailed engine bay and drive train is a must. A lift would be nice car costuming should be simple but hands on like slrr. multi player should have special races every so often with one of a kind parts as rewards. Great job guys!

    PLEASE

tell me that the artstyle is not final....

Also, i dont think an actual SLRR-like freeroam mode is gonna be working fine until you either find a way to make maps MUCH MUCH MUCH larger and less... linear (in the way most maps are just a small town, a road around and that's it)
Or you can find a way to make map-to-map transition happen in under 5 seconds, to give you breathing room to make a lot of small maps that connect with the other.

Can anybody explain edge collisions to me, I am not familiar with these terms but by the way some of you have been reacting to them they seem like pretty big changes to the physics engine.

I THINK it means about fixing how when you barely scratch a wall your car will stick to it and crash, even if your car should of have bounced off a little.

When will the water bug be fixed? its really jarring when you drive through and there's no reaction, (no splash or waves etc) its also kinda weird how fast they sink

I wish every company did progress reports this well, and I'm really excited for the upcoming and potential future features.

Thanks for all of the passion and work you guys put into this game. It's incredible how far you've taken it already, and I wish all of the developers and talent working on this game luck in achieving their ambitions.

... Thats not a bug. I don't think the devs plan to do water physics because i think the engine would not be ready for that. Also, don't quite know what your talking about how cars sink, they would sink pretty fast because they are not light...

they aren't light but they aren't filled with metal on the inside either, they would be somewhat until flooding with water and even a solid peice of steel would be slowed down by water more than cars in beamNG are, at the moment water doesn't seem provide much resistance especially when compared to the bushes that will spin an SUV and slow it considerably if it so much as scrapes a leaf.

Cars could also get dirty from sand/mud or wet from water/snow etc., that I miss... but dont know if it can be implemented.

EDIT: game which does this very well in my opinion is SpinTires

i think you overestimate how heavy vehicles are

they are most certainly buoyant enough that they wouldn't just sink down to the bottom with no resistance whatsoever, in fact if you look up videos of cars sinking in water, you'll know that they float at the top for a few moments before SLOWLY sinking to the bottom

There will be. You might not have noticed that next to "scenarios" and "free roam" is "campaigns, coming soon".

I love how much this game has progressed since when I got it in 2014, I remember when the first scenarios came out not to long ago blew me away. I never imagined that, especially any kind of story, even though its not ready yet, I still would never imagine this. I have played over 800 hours on this game (Not something to brag about!) I love this game and hope to see it grow even bigger!
