This thread is about discussing computer viruses/trojans/malware you've had before! Please keep this thread relevant and on-topic.

Do you like computer viruses? I certainly don't, especially on a gaming computer I absolutely love!

Well, last night, Windows Defender detected a 'Trojan Downloader' on my PC! This is somewhat of a coincidence since last night I was thinking about the fact I didn't have any antivirus software on my PC installed other than Windows Defender.

    Here, have a look:

    upload_2016-5-3_16-11-27.png

It stems from something in Google Chrome apparently, but I see something about a gosh darn Wordpress theme in the information! Mysterious, I know...

In the downloads menu in Chrome it says:

    upload_2016-5-3_16-13-39.png

I didn't download anything last night except the No Gas Challenge scenario for BeamNG and the latest version of TruckersMP (the multiplayer client for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2).

    How weird.

had a virus once that placed itself in the kernel of windows and infected every .exe file that was used.
was hard to get rid of but after a week of research it was succesful .
Dr. Web saved my pc that time.

    Oh dear.

Also, has anyone seen any of danooct1's videos? Lots and lots and lots of viruses from DOS viruses to modern Windows viruses.

Only virus I've had so far was from that one GTA V mod, Angry Planes. A keylogger. Still haven't changed my passwords :p

i found a bitcoin miner on my laptop a while back. no anti virus detected it, but my laptop had a lot of ram/processor that was taken up. i found the problem not long after i noticed that and had to delete it manually.

Loads, none recently though. Mostly when I was younger and torrented everything. Thankfully the people who do viruses didn't care about my rigs of rods account.

A school computer I was on today had a Zeus Trojan virus.

It opened a webpage on Internet Explorer that wouldn't close.

Update: This is what the webpage looked like, except the one I got had icons of a few browsers and a pop up message that wouldn't close.

I've never had a virus on my computer. However, I have worked on computers with viruses. There is one that sticks out, though. It was bathing in malware. Toolbars everywhere. Everything from malicious "clean your PC" programs to multiple trojans and even a rootkit. The rootkit was a strange one to get rid of. Avast caught it, but was unable to get rid of it. It restarted itself every time something managed to kill it. What I did (kinda for shits and giggles, I really didn't think this was going to work) was setting the priority of it to Minimum and affinity to 1 core. Then I, well, raped the CPU and RAM by holding CTRL-T on Chrome to open a shit ton of tabs. When the computer finally caught up and Chrome crashed, the rootkit had stopped running, having probably crashed as well. I simply just deleted the file, cleaned it from the registry, and continued cleaning up the computer.

DISCLAIMER: I don't recommend doing what I did to get rid of rootkit. It probably won't work, and really shouldn't have in my case. Just boot up a Linux live image, mount the HDD, and delete the rootkit that way.

The teacher told me to disconnect the computer from the internet (to make sure if it was a fake page) and it still came up afterwards.

    I absolutely hate those messages.

"Your computer is out of date!"
I just updated Windows 30 minutes ago, so no it is not.

I once saw a PC with like nine toolbars in Internet Explorer. You could barely see the websites anymore.

Only one I remember that I've had myself is one that simply at around 10pm would open about 10 tabs of a stream [don't even remember what the stream was really about]. My memory on this is terrible but this is at the time of me just starting to use a computer.

DNSUnlocker has destroyed my desktop PC completely. Can't browse or download anything at all on it and Steam sometimes has pop-up ads on it, freezing it and making me unable to use the store or workshop. I've tried everything except a hard reset but I just can't do it considering everything I've ever done is on there, and I have too much to lose. I just use my laptop to download stuff via USB drive and do everything browser-related on there instead :/ Every time I try to click on a link or something on my PC it redirects me at least 50 times, even duplicating the tab and changing the url to a virus website so that I close my actual tab instead and not the virus

I'd say back up as much as possible and either reinstall Windows or if that desktop is really obsolete and outdated, I would buy a new one, or even better, build your own PC.

More importantly, why the hell install DNS Unlocker anyway?

The only one I can remember would be the FBI money hack, otherwise just some adware.
