Applies to 2012-2015 models built after July 2012

    Overall evaluation:
    Poor
    Structure and safety cage: Poor
    Injury measures
    Head/Neck: Good
    Chest: Good
    Hip/Thigh: Marginal
    Lower leg/Foot: Poor
    Restraints and dummy kinematics: Poor
Important: Frontal crash test ratings should be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.

The Hirochi Sunburst was introduced in the 2011 model year. Hirochi modified the seat structure to improve occupant protection in frontal crashes beginning with 2012 models manufactured after July 2012.

    Structure
The driver's space was seriously compromised by intruding structure. Upper interior intrusion measured 17-19 cm at the upper hinge pillar and instrument panel. Lower interior intrusion measured as much as 21 cm at the hinge pillar and 20 cm at the footrest. The steering column was pushed back 9 cm toward the driver.

    Injury measures
Measures from the dummy indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be likely in a crash of this severity. Injuries to the left thigh and right lower leg would be possible.

    Restraints and dummy kinematics
The driver door hinges were torn apart and the door opened at the rear, which shouldn't happen because the driver could be partially or completely ejected from the vehicle. The dummy's head barely contacted the frontal airbag before sliding off the left side as the steering column moved 13 cm to the right, leaving the head vulnerable to contact with forward structure. After the dummy moved suddenly toward the door, its head went outside the occupant compartment. Its neck tilted back excessively when the shoulder belt tightened across the base of the dummy's neck. As the dummy came back into the occupant compartment, its head hit the B-Pillar

The dummy's position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel,
and instrument panel indicates that the driver's survival space wasn't
    maintained well.

Instrument panel and door hinge pillar intrusion was excessive
and contributed to a high risk of injury to the left lower leg, a
significant risk of injury to the left thigh, and a possible risk of
injury to the right lower leg.

There is a small degree of panel intrusion and the a pillar deforms slightly, the cockpit camera does also lurch forward a tad too much towards the a pillar. strengthening the a pillar and adding better crumple zones would significantly reduce this. This car does hold up well however compared to others in it's class during a 40 mph frontal offset.
