Hi, my 11 yr old son is obsessed with this software. He wants to build the cars, crash the cars and he loves the 3d style or look of the cars. I am not computer savy at all and i told him that i think you would need a computer with real good graphics to get the look you see of the videos on youtube. What is this Steam and what is actually part of the software you get for the 24.99. My son has a lot of patience and just likes to learn new things. Any assistance with this question is much appreciated?

Steam is a free software. Just download steam and create your son a account once done that buy Beamng from steam store either using a credit card or gift card. Then let game install. Hope I could help. And if I could ever be in any assistance to you just message me on my profile and I'll get back to you

Perhaps you might need more information, as JoshtheAwesome's post is a little brief.

BeamNG is a soft-body physics simulator, in essence a fancy video game. It's not a game in the traditional sense, it lacks missions or plots or whatever, but I guess an 11-year old might take some fun out of it.

It's only for PC, only for Microsoft Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 and you will need a decently powerful gaming PC for running it; in reference to what was said above, a Dell Inspiron is a broad model with varying specifications. Make sure your computer meets at least the moderate requirements, ideally the high requirements:

    http://wiki.beamng.com/Requirements

From there, the game can be purchased through Steam (basically a PC-game appstore), which I would personally recommend, or the humble bundle, which I cannot personally recommend. The front page, in which the purchasing options are shown is linked here:

    http://www.beamng.com/

And yeah. Post any questions you have here to this thread.

The guys above pretty much said everything (thanks!).

To be noted that if you purchase the game from Humble Bundle, you get both a code to redeem the game on the Steam platform, and also a simple download (DRM-Free, means it works without you having to get Steam)

Yes, thank you for going more in depth about the software, because he is constantly asking me did you get the game yet..lol! I just did not want to pay for something and then it ends up not being what he thought it was, but that's a chance I may have to take. I tell you this it is much cheaper than an Xbox or PlayStation...lol. I just got a new computer not sure what the graphics are on this computer because I threw box away, but I am sure I can find out in the settings of this computer somewhere. Anyway, I sure it will hopefully work. Thanks a bunch

Open the Start menu, and type 'dxdiag'. Post screenshots of the 'System' and 'Display' tabs.

Btw, game is 20% off on Steam right now.

There is also a thing called frame rate. You should go to options, then go to Overall Quality. On a normal compiter you should set it at normal, so the game would run smoother. If you don't do this on a normal computer, then the game would run choppy. This helps the gameplay a lot.
