I've had a Q9550 paired to a GTX 580 and it had a CPU bottleneck in BeamNG, but also in GTA V.
I later paired the GTX580 to my current i7 3770, which solved all the bottleneck issues.
Now I have an R9 280X but it's crap. Performance wise it's good, but update- and crash-wise not....
Next GPU will be NVidia again.

 

AMD's 300-series GPUs are much more stable. However, if you are patient, wait for Polaris and Pascal from AMD and Nvidia, respectively, before upgrading.

 

Thanks. I'll probably save some money for a GTX980 and buy a used one when Pascal's out. They should be cheaper then.

 

hello i need help i replaced my stock cooler for amd and the new one is overheating my pc and it shuts down i need help with coolers that are low pro

 

did you clean the processor and underside of the cooler with isopropyl alcohol?
did you remove the sticker from under the cooler? Seen people fail on that one.
did you put thermal paste on? Use the correct quantity?

the cooler i had was stock AMD and new one is Noctua nhL9a

 

Did you apply thermal paste properly? Is the fan plugged in?

my old cooler was stock AMD and new is noctua NH l9A

More details please. How exactly did you apply thermal paste? Have you double checked the fan is spinning? What exactly are your temps (idle and load)?

yes i put thermal paste and the right amount on and the fan is spinning and just using google cpu is at 134 and underload it gets to 210

a thick line down the middle? That's not just enough, that's so much that you're insulating the cpu from the cooler, it's way way way too much.

pea sized blob in the middle dude...

That's not how thermal paste works. It doesn't start insulating when it is thick. It is just ever so slightly less thermally conductive.

 

technically it does, thick over application increases the amount of material the heat has to transfer through and will decrease effectiveness big time. Had a mate stick a thick line down his, throttled at idle, I cleaned it up and stuck a pea amount in, was fine
