Until I saw YBR's video today, I thought it might have been American Samoa, but I'm pretty sure Japan never occupied that place. Japanese fortifications obviously mean North Pacific, but which territory would it be? I heard that BNGD is supposed to be set in America for now, so...

Well, apparently one of the structures on the island is actually referred to as a Japanese pillbox in the map editor, so...

And there's a Nazi Germany flak tower in the map, well, the remains of one.

I think it's the structure that YBR referred to as a castle. YouTube commenters also seem to agree that it's some kind of AA fortification, but probably of Japanese origin.

I'm pretty sure it's just a simple abandoned fort, you can even see the gaps in the wall where cannons would be placed in which means it most likely predates the japanese or whoever it was that occupied the island.

I don't think it's an abandoned fort. It could be the top of a flak (anti-aircraft fire) tower, as it has the same round edges as a flak tower.

many castles and forts had round edges, thats not a flak tower exclusive feature.

Why would anyone build a flak tower in a place like JRI and why isn't it just as tall as a flak tower?

If this island is in the North Pacific then the Japanese would have done it to attack the Americans.

Yeah, kinda like BeamNG's version of Pearl Harbour.

But which structure can support 20mm anti-aircraft guns? Flak towers.

Pearl Harbor was when the Japanese attacked a US port and their boats with planes. This is a tower which would have shot at planes that flew past it.

But only Germans built flak towers, there would be no reason for one to be in a place like JRI. This is just becoming a pointless conversation.

Yeah, it could be a mirror opposite of Pearl Harbour, where instead of the Japanese attacking us, we attacked the Japanese.

Meaning, Germany could've occupied JRI before the Japanese took over.

I could see that, maybe that is why the island looks mostly abandoned.

I think It could be based off an island in the Pacific. It is a rather small island, it is dense jungle, it has old military fortifications and a runway made out of what appear to be marston mats. The U.S used Marston mats to set up runways during WWII and many Pacific islands were used as staging points to launch american B-52's at Japan.

Looks a lot like the runway in Jungle Rock Island does it not?

The Japanese did have AA guns. I think one of them was a rig with three 25mm autocannons, but I don't know if they would have gone in an emplacement like that.
