I really want a usable map to navigate East Coast, and the navigation widget is all well and good, but doesn't show enough. Where does it get it's data from?

Is there any way to get a full map of the map? Sounds really wierd. I have looked into the sculptmask, and the asphalt layer, but they aren't quite right.

If you Mean sth like houses or trees, no there is I think currently no way to see, but I think I heard that the devs are working on a more detailled nav System :)

the current map app and ETK dashboard get the nav data from the decal and mesh road coordinates.

The App and the ETK Dashboard (Which are based on the same thing) uses 'waypoints' to define the roads.

When placing a 'decalroad' you get an option to turn that into an AI path. Doing that will also add it to the navigation system. The nodes (the grey spheres) are placed automatically.
We can also place our own nodes using the World Editor

In that case we define them manually in the 'map.json' file in the level folder.
I don't think there is a way to extract that data into a full-size image of the whole map at the moment.

Would the file that defines where the game puts asphalt be accurate? (It's called "theTerrain_layerMap_3_groundmodel_asphalt1.png").

    Should be close.
The game doesn't use those files. As the folder name suggests, those are leftovers.
