Approximate lunar cycles which are all different and have no reason to be there anyway. Also, why is February the odd month, why not December or January? It's not a very logical system.
Well... A very loud motorcycle (probably some Harley) just drove up and down my street completely covered in colourful LED lights. Definitely one of the most interesting thing I've seen drive on this street.
The car I want is a manual 4 cylinder Volvo 240 wagon. So, yeah.. Maybe a Foxbody Mustang or a Saab or something. Not that I'll need a car for awhile with the Maxima anyway.
Owning a car doesn't currently make financial sense to me. Since I don't really have any actual use for one. So I haven't been looking into them much myself. But if I was looking to get one I would be happy with basically anything with 4 wheels, 4 doors, above 4 star encap at time of release and providing it can do 0-60 in under 14 seconds, under 10 would be nice but isn't required. Preferably nothing before the 2000's. Which leaves in a tonne of choice. As for vehicle type I am not all that fussy, But a supermini, citycar or compact car would probably be the most practical for me. I would love to own a British sports car at some point, but can't imagine that will happen any time soon. Just to clarify on the cost front of things, Parking would cost me £1k a year, insurance would probably be close to £1k a year as well (which is already up to around $2800 USD for just insurance and parking), then add in any road tax and MOT and cost of fuel and it becomes quite a lot for someone who can walk anywhere they need to go within 15 mins (including a train station). I am planning on doing driving lessons soon though.
if you can afford the lessons, now is a good time to do it. Otherwise you can get stuck with best friends current conundrum. He needs to be driving solo within the next 6 weeks. He's only had one lesson, 3 years ago
heres my 2 cents. in terms of a cheap commuter there are only 2 cars in the entire world as far as im concerned. the 92 to 2000 honda civic, and any corolla you can afford. the honda will be a little more fun and the corolla will be a little more economical. if you dont need a car to commute like i do, id say wait a few years and get a lotus. for the record that insurance is free from were i stand. i registered the car in CT because in NYC they wanted 6k a year to insure it. i pay 1500 out of state by using my parents address instead of mine. i dont care if i get a warning for this because the message is important, FUCK the insurance industry.
Except Aljowen is in the UK. Paying out of state isnt an option. Even £1000 is on the lighter side for any quote aljowen would be getting as a first time driver, I generally advise british people budget for upto 2000 in insurance alone the first time around. They likely wont hit that (but can, I've heard of first time driver quotes reaching more) but they will often come close, 1k, you'll be lucky unless you're saddled with a black box. Now eliminate the insurance industry, when you're civic spirals out of control into another persons car, totalling their car and giving life changing injuries to the occupant, who is paying for it?
basically this. Considering how much just owning the car would cost I would probably go for a (low engine power) BMW of similar age (since insurance will rise and fall depending on engine models and so on), since compared to the ongoing costs of owning it the actual price of the car up to a certain point is not so important. It will also be a bit nicer to own in terms of comfort and features as well as to drive. It will probably also be a safer car too even with the age on both of them.
i feel you man its a tough game. as for the what happens if i crash with no insurance? if they got injured in the accident i was most likely killed on impact. if not, i keep a cyanide pill taped to the steering column. by the time those ems arrive ill be foaming at the mouth half way to hell. death before dishonor!
I'm at the point where insurers dont seem to vary my quote based on what I drive quite so much. Instead, they just outright slap me in the £700-900 bracket regardless of it being a 1997 Skoda Felicia or a 2009 Golf
If there was covered bike storage on the accommodation that I live in then I would totally bring my bike to uni and use that. Since I can see that as being a very good way to get around. But the bike storage that my accommodation offers is some metal hoops to lock it to. But I could get a folding bike and use that quite easily. Since I live in a fairly small city that has nothing around it for miles everything I need is within walking distance, but a bike would allow me to get around quite a bit faster. ten if I need to go afar for some reason or another there are trains, while expensive they are way cheaper than a car for the few times I use them a year. When I finish with Uni which is still a few years away I will probably move to wherever my job is to allow for a short commute. Then maybe after a while of having a full time income I may be able to afford a car. Whether I will need it or not though is once again a different story. But I will solve those issues when I get to them.
