Hello, I am working on a personal version of the official map: East Coast USA. I am adding a lot of new roads, props trees and off-roading trails such as hill climbs, rock crawling, dirt roads, trails and even a mud pit. After a lot of hard work I thought it would be cool to release the map when I'm done. But I want to make sure I release it properly since it's an official map. So is there any precautions I need to take before releasing the map? I mean obviously I need to give credit but what else? Thank you for your help. Ben.
Hello there, I think giving credits is the only thing you want to worry about. The rest is up to you and it will only help the users to understand what your mod is about (pictures and instructions, for example). Also, just make sure to create it as a separate map (So it won't overwrite the official one). I'm assuming it's your first mod and I recommend you to give it to someone you trust to test it because you might put some meshes or textures you might have on your computer's desktop and obviously the rest don't and the mod will end up with the famous "no material" colour for those people.
Okay so credits and a beta tester. And yes, pictures and probably a video will be in the release. And there's a video on YouTube for duplicating maps so I'll just do that. Thank you for your help. I'm pretty excited as this map is turning out great! --- Post updated --- Here's a teaser for the Mod. Excuse my video editing skills. Everything you see is in beta and could change in the release.
Always give it out to a few friends via private messaging etc, before you publicly list it. I've learned this one recently, though I won't get into it. Just trust me on that.
I don't really have any friends on Beamng but I'll see what I can do. Though this map should work fine since all it really is is a preset mod but I'll still try to fine someone to test it.
I would make this terrain separate from the official one just in case it breaks the official one. I've had this happen to me, and to this date the official GridMap for me is broken and will not load many things. You can make your own private beta testing group on here and invite some members whom you trust not to post it anywhere else. They can also give you feedback on bugs you could fix etc.
First off I love your taillight mod. And second Its an add-on using all official meshes and terrains that come with the map so It shouldn't break anything. And Ill try to make a group but if I cant find anyone to test it ill release it and if anything goes wrong ill try to fix it the best I can. I have been working 4+ hours a day on this mod and its coming along nicely. Here are some screenshots of whats been done since the video was posted a week ago:
