What is the end goal of BeamNg?

    the end goal to blow every other physics engine/game out of the water. with the level of manpower it could take a while. in short more of everything is the end goal. screw having an end goal.

    Why does everyone think mp is such a unrealistic thing? all i need is a new gpu and i can get 8+ cars running fine on my computer. me and slayersen have used the multiseat mode with some chrome extension to play beam together with the same camera angle with very little input lag. All they need is splitscreen or separate cameras for cars on separate computers and maybe even a local server and you have a beta multiplayer.

    I have an upgraded toaster, and I'm sure it can handle at least a two player game. This isn't ROR, you know. It's a lot more optimized than that.

    The problem is internet. They said that to transfer the node position for even 1 car would overload most broadband.

    What is this even supposed to mean, i know what this game is, are you being sarcastic or do you really have a toaster that can run beamng and make toast at the same time.

    Then don't. Basic positional data, all nodes&beams and physics are done client-side from the date given.

    So those with high-end machines shouldn't be able to enjoy because some won't be able to? I get that you gotta prioritize things, but I see no sense cancelling the idea on this basis.

    Crysis didn't run on many computers either. And actually, games like this tare kinda good for the hardware industry, as it gives people a reason to buy/build a computer that is not a slow OEM office machine or laptop.


    Honestly I don't think online MP would be the greatest idea for this game. I'd be happy with LAN MP (= local network session). Most people are expecting local MP to come first anyways, and online MP to be a super future sci-fi project.

    And as 10 Gbps network link is FINALLY starting to come to consumers for a sensible price, it may not be as far fetched to get pitch perfect MP. Imagine the devs launching this with 10 Gbps support? Buy a NIC and voilá.

    MP is fantastic.However it will blow up my computer.My GTX960 runs well with two cars but a little lag with 3 cars.I can't imagine how lag it will be when tens of players are crashing each other!

    err.. no.. not massive 20 player sessions, just 2-3 cars at a time would still be extremely fun.

    I don't disagree that multiplayer would be cool. But what would it be without collision? Without collision is the only feasible way in my mind for this to work.


    Even so, you guys still don't get it. You will be as fast as the slowest link:

    Unlikely Scenario. 3 of the players have good specs, they run 60 fps. 1 more player comes in, have absolutely crap specs, slows you all to 30 fps....you're lucky they spawn only 1 car.

    More likely scenario: 1 of the players has good specs, they run 60fps. 3 more players join in with average to crap specs, your fps goes down to 15-20. You're still lucky they only spawn 1 car.

    Most likely scenario: You join a server, that has 3 players who have crap specs. The server is overrun with abandoned cars because the kids got bored and spawned more. You have a great processor but this doesn't matter because the crap to good ratio is too high. You get 5-15 fps.

    Unless the dev team are gods, this is how the MP will work in mind.

    Surely the point of multiplayer would be to play with a couple of friends on a private server? What you've described is understandable and likely if on a public server but I don't think that's where the most enjoyment would be from.

    Best thing would be that you can create a lobby that is runnging over a public server or your PC. You can create up to 6 player ( or whatever) and you have the option to set a password for your server so not everybody can join. And you can name the server (sure you can)
