I want to make a '69 Ford Mustang but I don"t understand how to model the vehicle using gimp. I've literally tried for hours but I can't get it right. I can work on the JBeam but I just need a model.

The model is made using a 3D software like Blender.

Get some blueprints. But if you don't know how to use Blender to make what you want, just give up and try something easier first ...

Try something easier and look for tutorials online before trying to make a mod by yourself ...

You needn't give up, just before setting out to do a huge project, perhaps look into what kind of work goes into making mods?

To make a quality, full-detail car mod, you essentially need to be:
    - Skilled 3D modeler (sculpting, uv mapping, texturing)
    - Aware of what BeamNG needs in a model (not too high poly, separated parts, etc)
    - Completely aware of how beamng's file system works
    - Completely aware of how materials in T3D work
    - At least somewhat capable with jbeam (you can base your jbeam off an official one, but you still need to extensible modify it)
    - General debugging abilities (look at the console, see what's wrong)

Thanks man, but I think I'll stick to more simple things like creating maps

    Guys, don't be so rude.

Here's some good tutorials which will teach you some basics about modelling, when there's a problem in particuar you can always ask or google for help (first google, then ask).
Little tutorial series which you might want to watch:

    Text with pictures: http://www.thomasbaron.net/modeling-a-car-a-high-end-detailed-tutorial/

    Some tips: http://www.carbodydesign.com/article/59531-modeling-cars-in-polygons/

    Tutorial: http://darkscarab.com/view/43

Huge, in depth, a bit boring but very good and informative tutorial series:
