That's right. The fire doesn't seem to be very concerned about all the water around it.

Gridmap, default vehicle, alpha 0.5, no mods.

Huh, water should put out fire. Does it put out a fire if you try it another time, or with another vehicle?

Well, this only happens sometimes when I spawn the car in the water. And sometimes it doesn't. But I haven't tried setting the car on fire out of the water and then extinguishing it by going into the water. I'll tell ya when I've tried that, but I'm sure it would work.

Water does put out fire (by cooling it down, not oxygen starvation). This is a small bug with Gridmap, the water BeamE has parked the pickup in is called "undergroundlake1" and it's not quite deep enough! The bottom of the pickup truck is in air again, not water. It's easy to see by lowering your camera to be near the bottom of deepest part of the pool. As far as I know, the only way to exploit the problem is to manually ignite the vehicle while it's sitting down there.

If you use the editor to change the scale of "undergroundlake1" from 8 130.651 7 to 8 130.651 9 or 8 130.651 10 you'll find that the problem no longer exists. :)

ohh... are you manually igniting the car or is it catching fire on it's own down there?? If it's catching fire on it's own, could you post detailed instructions?

... I'd be interested if it was catching fire on it's own when playing with spawning in water. I posted another thread about that a few minutes ago: w/ demo video - D15 catching fire when spawning partially submerged. I've actually done the spontaneous combustion trick on the port level as well with a WaterPlane rather than a WaterBlock. It's really easy to reproduce the way I showed in the video.

It's pure spontaneous combustion. I go into the water, the engine dies. And sometimes when I respawn it, it just starts to burn.

And running into the water with a burning vehicle does put out the fire, so no problems there.

As others have noted, water does actually extinguish the fire. However, as @torsion reported above, there was a bug with the fire code when the vehicle was partially submerged.
I just fixed that and it might solve your problem too. Maybe you can provide some more detailed instructions on how reproduce this, so I can test it with the fixed version. :)

I've probably found out a way to reproduce this. Just take the default vehicle to the water, make it stop on the last "step" (like in the picture) and set a spawnpoint (with insert). Now every time you respawn there, you should start burning.

Thanks for the 0.5.1 update, goodbye spontaneous combustion!

    It should extinguish.
