Good graphics card for beam?

i finally got my pc on windows 7 to hopefully let it work on beam, but my graphics card is too old. I was just hoping i could get away with what my pc came with (bought it as a pre-built gaming pc) but i need a new graphics card. Any suggestions? I would like to keep it reasonable, and i would like an n vida, but im open to anything

If I were you I'd get the 750. I play BeamNG with it on normal settings with dynamic reflections on and depending on the map I get 80 to 40FPS. It's not great but it certainly does the job. If you want something more powerfull go for a 970.

 

It depends on how long you plan to use it and at what graphics settings you want to play your current games on. I have a GeForce GTX 750Ti, which is older and budget and works okay. I wouldn't get the 750Ti, I'd get the 950 or 960 now that they are released. If you want to upgrade and have 2 open PCI slots you could get a card that works in SLI, and buy a second one when you need it, but you won't be doubling your performance. If you want something that's going to last longer a 970 is a good option. Go to Passmark's website for more benchmarks on computer hardware, where you can see the best and their prices and specs to upgrade your current system. Or if you have more money and want to get a better machine overall, you could go to PCPartPicker's website to build one. It will flag all the issues before your order any parts. Your power supply will also need an upgrade to run the GPU, but if it is a gaming built one then it should work. Please let me know if you need any more help.

Also, half the time I forget AMD cards exist, so I'm sorry that my choices are a bit bias but I don't know Radeon cards as well as I know GeForce ones.

Wow your PC is from like 2008 lol. you may as well get a whole new machine. beamNG is also pretty heavy on the cpu and you have a very low end AMD one

 

ok, my wallet prefers the 750Ti i think ill go with that, but $115 is a bit rich. Im really cheap about this stuff

The unfortunate truth is that BeamNG, being a physics simulator with good graphics, is a fairly demanding game. An Intel processor is preferred since they have better IPC/single-core performance. I forget whether BeamNG uses 2 or 4 cores, though. I would recommend an i5 at the very least.

The 750Ti will play this game decently but that's considered a low-medium end GPU. GPUs are unfortunately kind of expensive, with some of the medium-end ones being $150-250 and high end ones being 300-400. Flagship cards go from 450-650 and enthusiast grade GPUs like the Titan go for almost $1k

 

im going goodwill grave robbing next week, ill see what i see. There are some decent p/c's there for less than that of the 750ti

 

BeamNG uses one core/thread per car, so more cores just means more cars on dedicated threads.

Don't go cheap on something like that, it's not worth your money to get a really cheap crappy card and then upgrade again when you're tired of its limits. Go for the GTX 750, it'll do a great job and it's around $100 USD, or $119 CAD.

Craigslist is also a good place to check for cheap components, or whole PC's (often w/out HDD/RAM or are not guaranteed to run, though.).

 

With one car? More than one, I'll bet it slows down. Go for the i5 if you can. It'll be completely worth it.

 

30fps is terrible, especially for this game since the controls are tied to FPS. I can't really play anything under 45fps in this game due to the input lag induced at lower framerates.

 

GPUs cheaper than the 750Ti can't be used for gaming in this day and age. I have 3 8400GS's (old AND cheap), and just use them to add monitors to cheaper builds. Or HDMI support.

 

I use an i5-4690K and a GTX 750 Ti and the game runs pretty nicely. I don't know the FPS but it's never noticeable that it slows except in some intense crashes. I would recommend an i5 with 4 cores as opposed to an i3 with 2, as that will also make multitasking and games to come more responsive.

 

i have the dual core i5 in my work pc and it runs beam all day every day with like 6 cars and no lag on most maps. so im going to goodwill pick an i-5 this weekend if i find one. the goodwills around here actually have some pretty nice stuff in the pc department.
