It is not a laptop cpu and the frequency stays the same for hours, the temperatures hang around 70? per core and 40? per package all the time. Also I have disabled the temperature frequency control in bios. Underclocking is not the problem in this case.

For anyone having this issue you can see whether your performance issues are on the CPU/GPU by pausing physics calculations with the "J" key. If you notice a big increase your CPU is bottle-necking your computer.
Ctrl+F toggles some performance info too, FPS at the top left if you don't have FRAPS running.

Some older CPUs struggle with the game in comparison to newer models. I tested earlier on a 3.0 ghz Intel dual core (about 6 years old??) and it was also getting around 24 fps, up to 50+ on a physics pause.

I have a pentium D 2.8ghz and under task manager it shows that i'm only using 70% of my cpu and 800mb of my ram (about 1.3gb available). In GPU-Z it shows my gpu usage at 50%.

Edit: my computer is from 2005 which puts it at 8 years old :O

What settings did you use i only ge 12-13 fps

Interesting. So I pull 70+ FPS with any initially spawned vehicle, physics paused or not. But as soon as I change to a different car via Ctrl+E, I drop down to 20+ FPS. Pausing the physics brings me back up to 70+ FPS.

My question is, why is changing cars resulting in this sudden drain on my system? It's a rather frustrating issue. An i7 2630QM isn't too old, only a generation behind Ivy Bridge based units.

Don't really know what's happening here. Perhaps your system is getting too hot and underclocking itself to prevent melting? Also, why haven't you (the OP) synced your forum account with your purchase? People may get suspicious if you're posting screenshots of the full game without a premium forum account. It's really pretty easy, just click the link under the download link in your purchase email. If that doesn't work then follow these instructions. You also get access to otherwise restricted areas of the forums!

Well as you can see on my screenshots, the CPU and GPU are both not running at 100%. If I pause the simulation or just slow it down, it does increase the FPS. My question is, why isn't it using 100% of the CPU then? I think even using 20% more would gain additional 5 FPS, and 25fps versus 30fps is that critical threshold of somewhat playable to fluent gameplay. My guess is that the memory speed is the bottleneck in our case. It just doesn't have enough transfer speed to feed the CPU with data and vice versa. It's still a DDR2 memory. I'll try it tomorrow on different computers and I hope I'll understand this issue better.

I had this problem,it can be solved by cleaning your fans with an air can,to stop overheating and throttling,I gained 70 fps and a constant temp of 60 while playing.

Gonna give some extra info here. In the debug menu in "k" my fps is always 25. I tested it by going to the grid clean map and having a stripped ishibu and it said 25 and felt like ~75 (the max of my screen.) Then I smashed a H45 into 6 grand marshals and it said 25, felt like 7 or less. :D I checked my temps and I had been around 70c with max turbo for the past 30 or so minutes. Used HWinfo64 to get the frequencies. This is a (mildly) old i7 870 at 3.6Ghz. My ram is only 1033 though. :(

So, for guys saying it's temperatures, no it's not. I simply noticed that, on my brother's computer, i5 2500k or something, he have a nice fps, with a bad gpu (gt630) while i, Core 2 Quad Q8200 (I don't even have 50% usage) w/ GTX 550 ti, have 22 fps and when paused i have more than 40 fps. Same for a friend (CP3088), this means that the physics engine isn't optimized yet and that's why it's "ALPHA", So whatever, i think we should wait a little bit more guys :p

    (imported from here)
    Not even 50% Usage :[

*For those who are going to say that my cpu is bottlenecking the whole pc, not it's not, runs Battlefield 3 perfectly at Meduim, stable 40fps (At meduim because of GPU overheating, else, same for Ultra without AA), Warthunder at Movie(Ulta setting @ 45fps) and crysis 3 and things like that works all fine without problems, and my cpu isn't overclocked, not overheating, it has a big fan in it x)

From reading this thread, the simulation seems to struggle with Intel CPU generations older than Nehalem (i5/i7), even when they clock higher. I have the same problem with my Core2Duo E8500 (3 GHz). Maybe the physics calculations are just not optimized for this microarchitecture?

It is surprising that the original poster has similar problems with an i7 processor though, which would point toward a bigger problem with the game. Strange that it caps at 25 FPS consistently, too.

For everyone that is stuck at 25 fps use this program: contig.exe http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897428.aspx . It is a program from microsoft, and i don't know exactly what it does(magic probabli) i think it organizez the files better(i use this program in every game and i allways get more fps). And after that, use razer geme booster to defrag the game. That's what i did and now on lowest setings i get 40-60 fps .

I tried this. My game was already defragmented as Windows 8 automatically defragments things.

I do not believe this is possible? I'm simply using the techdemo.

    I'm having the same issue.

Game starts off at 60fps for a bit with my first car (vsync on) then after about a minute, or if I switch cars, it slows to 25 fps.

    I have a Dell XPS L502x with an i7-2670QM and a Nvidia GT540M card.

Man... your computer is a jet ! lol

    - - - Updated - - -

You should use windows 7 or vista with the old style of windows NT that's the best for gaming ! and you will get more fps! :)
