Sorry for the lack of progress, I got married, moved across the country, and started classes again in the past 3 weeks! Been very busy! Mopower, that's awesome, I love the Pine City show! I had a good look at winning my hometown show, ran half of the feature with a broken ball joint with my front right tire sideways on the ground. A guy I went to school with hit me in the rear left tire and got his front bumper lodged all the way behind my tire and we got stuck at 3rd and 4th. Front was VERY tough, still straight. Promoter told me I had a tougher car than any chevy or ford that showed up. Some of the veterans told someone I know that I'm one of the best drivers they've seen. Awesome to hear that after so much work for only my 2nd year of derbying. I've been looking at the new Pessima (very similar to a W-body GM from what I see, which is probably the most popular compact car for derbies) and I think I might try my hand at making some changes to it and the other compacts as well soon! very promising bases to work with. I'd love to get a start on all the cars with a "bonestock" type build, not many changes other than better bumpers, and then work up on them from there. The stock bumpers are really what keep these cars from being good derby cars, so that's a good, and theoretically easy start (If I knew what I was doing!) I played around with all the compacts. I think the Sunburst is surprisingly strong up front, and I think it has the stiffest trunk of the compact cars. I also see a ton of potential in the Ibishu with a 3rd gen camaro type build. And lastly, I decided the covet is the lemon of the bunch as far as derbying goes. The rears aren't very good at all. Maybe I can make something out of it still with a good cage, gas tank protector, and hump plates!
heres an idea add some rust and wear to the GM to make it look like it came straight out of a wreckers yard.
Too bad you got hung up! And glad you have a car left from the sounds of it. I took 1st at my hometown show and got crowd pleaser! Hoping to junk my car in a cleanup show so I can start fresh. Ran enough preran and worked on enough preran cars to know that fresh cars are way more fun. That's interesting about the moonhawk bumper. Sounds good to me, but you should definitely think about stuffing it if you're gonna run that on the front.
Congrats on the win, I'm still chasing my first win. I just bought an 87 vic today, it will be my first ford. MOPAR powered of course On a more related note, my hard drive failed for the second time this summer and this time I wasn't able to save my mod. A little annoying, but looking at this as an opportunity to redo the work that I already did, better and faster. Solid state drive on the way lol
