Underrated cars

Apparently the cube has rear drum brakes

 

So? Lots of small cars have rear drum brakes. And some big ones.

 

I would of thought most modern cars would have disks all round by now.

 

Nope. Rear drum is the norm, rear disc is more expensive plus the front brakes do most of the work anyway so the benefits are mostly non existent.

 

Rear drum is maybe the norm for cheap small cars. I only see them occasionally on small sedans or whatnot, and even then it's disappointing.
I don't think it's ok to see drums on brand new cars in 2015. They're so outdated.

 

The one my parents have is a 10 plate one, which spent half of it's life as a courtesy car (got it in 2013)
It is very good at IKEA shops (obviously), and the fact that the Rims (not sure what to call them) are part of the wheel mean that they cant get nicked (Live in a bit of a bad neighbourhood, the kids nick everything that is not tied down.)

 

Says mr solid rear axle + body on frame. Drums, work. There is literally nothing wrong with them when used in the lighter duty of rear braking.
Discs however, the holding torque of a disc is actually lower than that of a drum (thanks to the self servo effect), makes parking brakes on discs a bit of a pain to which the solution is often to just hollow out a drum style area in the centre and have the parking brake assisted by a small drum inside the disc. You then have both disc and drum on one wheel, expensive and more complex in a role where the drum itself works fine.

Even most vans and trucks here seem to rock the rear drum still.

 

i lol'd so hard at that ad, makes me wonder why some ads are that ridiculous. I mean i see humorous ones for cars on TV that are stupid humor but somewhat entertaining. But that is just... no.. why? Why are you advertising something so... crude compared to other cars that are clearly better than the main one listed at the bottom?

Well the 2cv was a really well thought out car, just like ths beetle. It was succesful for a reason. Its a pretty funny ad too.

 

One underrated (and forgotten) car is the Chevy HHR SS. Probably the best sports car for use in everyday life. 0-60 in 6.4 sec., and it handled pretty well too.

 

Even my 96 marquis has disks all around, and its a base model

 

Because the 2CV you buy for the price of a sandwich and the others you buy with the GDP of a small nation.

 

despite Citroen being a french car maker, you think they are better than Renault and Peugeot if the CV2 was so successful? It just brings me to the question if the CV2 was successful, i wonder if the rest of Citroen tops Renault and Peugeot? Even if Citroen is owned by Peugeot.

My civic came with rear drums. Functionally they work fine. I've only ever overheated front brakes before so I don't know what I really got by converting to disk. For a daily the drums are just fine. I believe my father's 84 alfa spider is drum all around and that car stops just fine.

 

i ended finding out that our civic had rear drums a few months ago,heck when I was quite young I used to think our civic had a v6 (don't ask how i came up with that)
