First off, let me start by saying that the updates this game receives on a regular basis are great. It's becoming to be such a cool game. The amount of vehicles in the game is awesome considering how early in the development cycle it is, lest we forget mods. But I for one would be happy to see an update which focuses less on new content, and more on a new set of sounds. The sounds are my pick for the weakest part of the game. The graphics are plenty fine, the engine and processes are superb, but the sounds are lacking to say the least. I don't even think there is more than one engine sound at this moment. The same goes with collision sounds and the sound the car should make when being tossed violently around. I would love to see an update with a new pack of sounds.

Anyway, these are my thoughts, let me know yours.

They'll get to it, sooner or later. I know it might not seem like it but the game is still in a pretty early state. Things like the engine noises are placeholder for now until they can get around to making something better. I hope you don't take this as rude, but they just have more important things to do right now.

You have sauce for this? Because when it comes to sounds, I'm an audiophile. Been waiting for new sounds/improvements for a Looooong time!

I am an audiophile too, just bought myself a $350 [Canadian Dollar] Mic setup for mostly skype and overall voice chat use... lol, you know you love good audio when.

Maybe will produce some videos at some point with it.

Mostly bought it for the long lasting overall durability aspect.

I also have a $200 headset and want a $400 dac at the moment.

So believe me when I say I sink money into my audio and want more from beam.

    On Topic

Also "You have sauce for this"....

    lol

our sources are the dev blogs.

Here is a prime example of proof they are looking to replace our currently lack luster sound system.

Sorry, I'm on Reddit too often. ;D

Thanks! Been kinda away from the forums until the team got their stuff together, so it's nice to see them making such good progress. I don't really understand why they've waited until recently to start overhauling the sound system. IMO, should have been at least half way finished by now. Or even a demo video on it... Instead of featuring new cars all the time.

    That's just me though.

What would be worse?.....beautiful perfectly handling and deforming vehicles with crap sounds or beautiful perfect 7.1 surround sounds and crap vehicles?

No expert in the field but I would imagine getting the kinds of sounds that match the kinds of deformation in this game will be just as epic of an
undertaking as anything the devs have done so far. With that in mind I think it's safe to say the devs have proven they are in sync with the
community at large and when the new sounds arrive it will be mind blowing in the realism department. I'm quite happy to remain patient for this.

The current sounds are placeholders and have been since the game was first released to the public. They simply didn't/don't have enough manpower to do the sounds/multiplayer/other things along with the more important stuff.

You're right on that. They mentioned a *long time ago* that they wanted to produce physics based sounds - not just generic ones that we have now. The type of sounds produced would be dependent on how the vehicle was deforming. Which is amazing.

A big issue they need to think about (if they haven't yet) is how the slow-mo feature will work with these new sounds, you've noticed by now the sounds never actually slow down when you activate the slow-mo feature... They just keep playing at normal volume and speed, which would be quite interesting (and weird) if you had physical based sound producing at the time of impact at such slow time. I would almost think it be best to cut sound completely when you enter into slow-motion to eliminate the possible bugs/glitches that would produce with the new sound system. Unless they found out a way to slow the sound sampling down so that the speed of the sounds being played would match the speed of the deformation/physics. That would mean months/years of calculations I'm sure.

TL;DR - Physical based sound rendering is much more complicated than you think, it can be done but takes lots of time. If the devs decide to play it safe with slow-mo and not worry about enabling sound sampling in that mode then it may take less time perhaps.

Eh, yeah sorry for the long post. :p
