Well as the title says will there be any kind of repository just like ror? Or will stuff just be released in the drive section since you have to pay to see that part of the forum? Sorry if this is a waste of space just curious is all.
It would be nice to see an exchange site, so all the user-generated content has a place to be easily searched. It would be an interesting project for sure. As nice at it'd be, at this stage in the development cycle, it would make more sense for the game developers to work on the getting the game out of alpha, and not a sharing tool. Also, it's been my experience that the majority of user content sharing sites for other games are created and maintained by the community.
I'd prefer the forum. People with problems can get support easily and it keeps a nice topic related to the terrain. Much better than just click and download.
I'd prefer the forum too, because you can get help much easier and you can also report bugs really fast.
That's a very good point. I agree that a forum is the best place for help. However, finished products are likely to get buried, as more and more people join in here. The forums are great for the current scale, and even some more, but I don't think they'll scale well when 100+ people are all vying for attention for their creations.
Thanks for the replies guys, I think releasing stuff in the forum has its pros an cons, you cant search it category wise, say im looking for a fairly old released map, i dont wanna go digging threw pages of cars, mods, skins, etc. Itd be nice to have a repo, an like most people did on ror they posted a wip thread, then when finished they put it on the repo, so you could always get help from the creator on their wip thread. Just my opinion Feels like everybody is nicer here then the ror forum lol
Well, how about a few groups in a repository if there is one? Ex: one group for featured vehicles (Chosen by the admins maybe? Or by vote?) and another group for featured terrains. Then groups for skins and decals and stuff that only two people want.
We can talk about hypothetical features all day long. If this games gets popular in beta or at release, the forums will no longer be able to support all the users' content. No numbers have been disclosed, so we can't make any inferences on the growth rate of the user base. The line between the forums being good enough and no longer good enough to display user content is blurry, and it is likely to only be noticed once it's been crossed. With the amount of time needed to spin up such an exchange site, the sooner it's started, the better. However, nothing should be started until it's confirmed that it would be used.
