This is for users running BeamNG on laptops with Nvidia Dedicated Graphics (also known as Nvidia Optimus). The Bug: Till now, users with those dedicated graphics in their laptop weren't able to run BeamNG on the Nvidia chip, as it would run on the Intel Graphics no matter what settings you choose. That appears to be a common problem with Nvidia Optimus, as their forum is filled with similar reports on many other games. The fix: Update 0.4.0.6 introduces a small fix that will force these laptop to use the Nvidia Graphics. As this problems seems to be random and none of us suffered from it, here's a thread were we can gather the results of this fix. Please let us know if the fix works for you http://wiki.beamng.com/Dedicated_Graphics
Works fine here. (Couldn't take a screenshot in full screen mode) When I launched Beamng for the first time after the fix, it only detected the iGPU and not the dGPU. Closed Beamng, launched it for the second time, and then Beamng chose the dGPU. Plus, FPS numbers in full screen mode seem to be more than that in windowed mode(18 fps in full screen mode in the Port terrain and 9 fps in windowed mode. My laptop's a bit crap...)
Still doesn't work for me weirdly, I've tried launching it directly from the x96 and the x86 versions too.
System Spec and OS please. Are you sure your game is updated? Can you try deleting the 'settings' folder in 'Documents/BeamNG.Drive' and re-check? Are you sure you set Nvidia Card in the Nvidia Control Panel? Are you on 'power saving mode'? Eventually check this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/8190/discussions/0/648814844906542357 Post #3
Intel Core i5-3230m @2.6 GHz (3.2 GHz with boost) , Nvidia Geforce GT 635M, 6GB of RAM and 2GB VRAM. Running Windows 8.1. Yes, my game is updated. Yes, all 3 .exe's of BNG are set to ''High-Performance Graphics Card''. No, I'm not on powersaving mode. EDIT: Just tried deleting the settings folder too, but that doesn't seem to help either. I'll try the steam thing now. EDIT2: The Steam solution doesn't seem to help either, as it was already set like that for the game.
Are your Nvidia Drivers updated? You said you already did that Nvidia Inspector trick before. Can you try reverting those changes to default? Can you try updating your Intel HD Graphics drivers aswell? Can you provide your game log and a DXDiag log?
I know this sounds weird but before the update mine was already showing my gt635m in the options menu. i haven't checked after the update yet, will check later.
My Drivers are updated. The Inspector thing was already set like that as default, I hadn't changed anything. I'll try updating my HD drivers and providing a log now.
With this update, my game is now almost static 59 fps. But I still see the Intel GPU warning. Do I need worry about that?
Doesn't seem to be worry about, but I'd like to know what card is actually being used. Can you used one of the GPU monitor software and check what card is under load? EDIT- For who is reading, that 'Performance' screen is a WIP, and does not show the current used GPU. You can see the actual GPU being used in the options menu, under graphics
