Ok, I have decided to use B25Mitch's traffic lights. They already have cycles. - - - Updated - - - I've thought about putting an ocean around it, haven't entirely decided. I might release a version with an ocean and a version without one. - - - Updated - - -
A few quick tips: The curbs are too tall. You may want to cut them down by around 50-65% The terrain looks a bit too flat. Yes, most cities are built on pretty flat ground, but even they feature 1-4 meter variations between blocks, a feature you only really notice when it's missing. Don't focus too much on making upper building facades look good. Yes, it's critical for that 'city' look, but add more concentrated detail to the bottommost 2-6 stories of your buildings, as that's where players are most likely to see it up close. Don't be afraid to let a street skew to one side or another. Engineers carefully plan streets out to make them perfectly straight, but cities are still built on natural terrain. A meter or two of mild offset between a couple of blocks can up the visual interest and driving challenge just that little bit. Let at least a few streets end at some point. It's more interesting, and demands that the player occasionally change course while trying to race across the city. It can also let you show off a special, unique, or high-detail building that you can place at the end of said street. Consider the possibility of multi-level streets, tunnels, and elevated freeways. These can vastly increase the effect of verticality, and can give you the opportunity to carve out interesting alternate routes.
This map is a natural for B25's lights, good call. I agree 100% with Occam, perhaps experiment a little and put some of this map on a nice realistic slope. You'd be amazed at how it will raise the whole feel of the city.
This is looking very nice with the freeway. Any chance on getting textures on those barren buildings?
Not sure atm. - - - Updated - - - Almost to beta guys. Just have to fix a few things and the map is ready. - - - Updated - - - Some of the decal roads are a little um, weird.
I like where you're going with this Perhaps maybe even a bridge over water leading to this residential area, or yet another jam-packed part of this city :] Check out the verrazano bridge, it's a double decker bridge that would go great in this map.
Read the first post: I need to fix some things before release. Also, my computer decided to crash and we are having it fixed at a computer repair shop. This map probably wont be released for another week or so, unfortunately.
It looks great but I really want to point something out. The traffic lights should be on the other side of the intersection for each direction otherwise you cant see them. They should be positioned like in the photo.
