Is there a way to change the starting fuel level in the vehicles?

I found out that in the pickup.jbeam file at the bottom you can atleast change the fuel tank capacity. i tried it and it works, had a 3 litre fuel tank on the d15. but i hope there is a way to make several fuel tanks with various fuel levels.

Pretty sure it's already possible. Look at the delivery truck, remove the heavy duty fuel tank. You'll see it go from 150L of fuel to 100L.

yeah it seems like the 100 liters is a set value for not having fuel tanks, but i don't see how you can make several fuel tanks. but it is most likely possible, but i have only seen the size of the fuel tanks. there might be just an set in another file that says that all cars start with 100%

Yes, currently all cars are set to start with full fuel. Also we don't yet simulate changing weight from burning fuel. It will be possible to change the starting fuel once we implement some gameplay scripting.

And yes, the default fuel tank capacity is 100L if there is none present (to prevent cars from being immobile while they're being made if a fuel tank hasn't been added yet)

Is it possible to add another choice for fueltanks so you could have the regular and one with just a few litres? and if so what has to be changed?

You could copy the fuel tank part inside the .jbeam and rename it, change the appropriate value, and then install that new custom fuel tank in the parts configurator (CTRL + W)

Does fuel mean anything right now? Can you actually "run" out of fuel and stop?

Yes, and a low fuel warning light comes on too :D

You can edit the fuel capacity in the .jbeam to something insanely low and watch the fuel gauge quickly run out and the engine die.

Also in the first debug mode you can see your fuel consumption. The Covet gets something like 40 mpg cruising at 55 mph

I am looking at the Gavril Grand Marshal Police and I don't see anything to do with fuel. Wait, is this the right file? If so where is fuel? fullsize_police.jbeam ( C:\Users\_____\AppData\Local\BeamNG\BeamNG-DRIVE-0.3\vehicles\fullsize )
