We have a Honda CBR 600f been out on it a few times, it's bloody quick!

Don't have any recent photos of it so have one from 8 years ago.. It's now just stuck in the garage behind the MG.

I really want this motorcycle. It's some guy's on craigslist 1978 Kawasaki KZ650 that he custom modded. It's absolutely gorgeous.

    He wants $4k for it.

What is a good starter bike for a first time rider? I really would like to get a motorcycle, but don't really know what to look for. All I've heard is that it is a good idea to start with a 250cc bike.

    Ninja 300 / CBR250R / Yamaha R3, anything under the 600 class.

I've always been told to start at 125 but looking around, most 125's max out at 65mph, UK national speed limit on a dual carriageway is 70 and it would be nice to have that + a small leeway for safe overtaking. So yeah, I'd second the 250 bet.

The only difference is that a 20 year old like me can ride a sub 11hp 125 without a full bike license.

I've been thinking that the CBR250R would be good, that or the 300R.

The only downside I can think of is that crashing (maybe even dropping it) could be rather expensive because the fairing probably has to be replaced, so I'd say go for a naked bike as your first bike, get some crash protectors and you're good to go.

But other than that these bikes are pretty good for beginners, they have more than enough power and generally a good fuel efficiency.

Are there any bikes really similar to the Kawasaki ZR250 Balius or the Suzuki GSX250FX that you can find in the states? I really like the 1991 Balius, but you can only find them online in Japan and occasionally New Zealand or Australia. I really like the look of that bike, but can't find something very similar here in the states.

I was looking around and found that the Suzuki Bandit 250 is very similar, unfortunately is doesn't rev to 19k (only 14k), but it looks very similar.

I've concluded that if I can find an early nineties Suzuki Bandit 400, I'm buying it straight away.

I don't know that much about the Bandit 400, but I own a '99 Bandit 600 and it is a reliable and nicely handling bike, a little bit heavy but still very nimble. The parts are cheap and if something breaks, you could repair it by your own. It's one of those bikes that give you confidence even though you never sat on it before. So I guess the 400 is a good choice :) Suzuki FTW^^
But IF you get the chance to buy a Balius/GSX250FX, get it. Dat sound <3

I'd love to get my hands on a Balius. Unfortunately that's nearly impossible. I haven't found a single one in the states.

I feel really bad, I sold my Balius.. I really regret it.. But my car decided to shit out and I needed a car more than a bike.. The bike had a few issues too, I broke the speedometer and I couldn't find a replacement anywhere.
I sold it for a sad $1376.00 USD. I plan to buy another, more tidy one at some point. There's a few for sale here, they seem to be really cheap bikes for whatever reason, so I'll probably own another by the end of the year.

However, a Honda CB400 is another bike I want, sharing the same styling. I might get this(or similar bike) over the Balius, the Balius is quite hard to live with, they do 10k rpm at 100km/h. However the sound is something I wont forget and will really miss. :(

    Here's a CB400

That really sucks. I definitely want that Bandit 400 if I can find one though. There are a couple of 90's bandits on craigslist here, but they are both 1200cc bikes which isn't ideal for a starter bike.

I kind of like this as well. Though I'd replace the dual headlights with a single large one.

Damn, you guys have some nice bikes! I myself have an 82 Yamaha XJ650R but its a rough machine. It makes a beautiful noise above 4500 RPM. The original owner mistreated it something harsh and pretty much killed it... luckily I managed to save the poor thing, but lacking money, I had to fix the parts that were on it rather than buying new parts. So I think it kinda looks like a Rat Rod at the moment... don't know if a Rat Rod motorcycle is even a thing. :p

Anyways, I have a big headlight on my bike, and I love the look of it. I think one would look pretty good on that bike as well!

Wow, how did I missed this thread? I've owned a bunch of bikes, but right now I own an 1983 Kawasaki GPZ 550 wich I'm working on, mostly aesthetical details since I'm the third owner and it only has less than 24k original miles, unmolested and without any modifications.

This is how I've bought it, it was kept with minimum use for about 10 years or so, not even cleaned.

    DSC_0071.jpg DSC_0078.jpg DSC_0097.jpg

Need to take new pics I know, right now it has a lot of details fixed and I'm working on a new digital instrument cluster. The original one looks perfect but the internal mechanism of both (speedo and tach) are fucked up, due to it's age, not use.

This is the '84 I've completely restored myself:

And here's a pic of a 1980 KZ 550 I've used to own too, right next to my '92 CBR 1000F wich I've owned for 6 years and traveled a LOT with it:

    DSC05291 Copy.JPG

    Other Hondas I've owned includes a 1981 CB750-F, 1984 Shadow VT500 and a 1987 VF700 Super Magna.

I know that feel , gonna have to sell my Varadero 125 in order to make my car work as it's supposed to:(.
    Really sucks, i love it.
I will be allowed to drive my dads bike, which kinda makes it hurt less, but still it's like loosing an old friend.
