I see your point about crap... Although I doubt the people that make these mods even have an authorized version of BeamNG. And they probably cant read English, so they cant read the Wiki, and you know how much gets lost in translating languages with Google translate. The weird thing is though... The Russians care more about their cars instead of the other kinds of cars... its weird. All the American cars have severe issues with the Jbeam and the Russian cars have an almost acceptable Jbeam. Odd thing I noticed when I tested these mods. Not to mention that most of the russian mods dont work due to a missing .DAE file.
-Sorry for bump- You really should see how some of these off-site mods are just plain terrible when it comes to certain things. This Ferrari F40 is an example: It's probably from Forza due to the way it's detailed. It has little to no reflections, it's low-quality [Obviously] and just by the fact that it does not have it's own n/b. The person that made it does have skill with animations and lights, which would make you think that this mod is good. Until you see this thing crash [Go to 0:45].
Eye candy, that is all they are, while static and undamaged they do look rather pretty. Get them moving or crash them, *shudder*
The worst thing about these russain sites aren't the mod though. They litterally give you the game FOR FREE...
The problem is that when people type BeamNG mods into Google before buying the game (just to see how much content they will recieve), they will find the bad mods and think the game doesn't offer any good quality content aside from the official stuff, which isn't that much at the moment, so they don't buy the game. These sites are making THE GAME look bad with deformation being so off.
Then there's also the double edged sword of making people that haven't bought the game not access the beamng forums. On one side it's good, because than the people that downloaded the game from some website won't be able to access any quality mods at all. One the other side it's bad, because than the people don't know how much good content there is.
My first post here, and wow thanks so much for this info. When I brought this game, I kinda just wanted to rush in having fun and so didn't upgrade my forum account (or even make one) or realize really that there was "official" and "illegitimate" content. Luckily an interest in tuning the jbeam files found me on here anyways to search tutorials, and man there's so much good info in this forum in general, joining here should be mandatory. To think I was actually going to give some of those Russian mods a chance. Yech.
Thread updated with new information. I felt that with all the controversy and opinions surrounding "improved" mods, I should update this post with a general statement regarding them while trying not to express too many opinions. Hopefully this edit can help anyone who's not sure about the improved mods that are released here on the forums.
There are some funny features on some of these mods have like one that when you put on the parking brake the rear wheels come off. with my research with these mods there are a no go but some are surprisingly good. I only downloaded cars that I expected to be bad like Ladas for example. defiantly opening the forums to the public was a good idea at least it stops them from stealing content from this site.
I think it's pretty unlikely that they're going to stop stealing content just because the forums are now open to everyone. There are still plenty of people who use their websites to get mods, so it's not like they lost their users. If anything, opening the forums makes it easier for anyone to reupload content wherever. But it was still certainly a good idea.
I really hope that some of those mod creators see this because this is ruining the game especially when the YouTuber JackSepticEye used the Avenator in his video and he said that it was a good car. These mods are just eye candy and they should be stopped as soon as possible.
Now I hate him even more than I did before. I don't want him on beamng. spreading popularity, but bad popularity.
Really informative thread; thanks for this. I know it's 4 weeks old but I want to chime in. If all you want is a fast car, then go to this thread and make yourself a powerful engine. It takes 10 minutes, and if you're good enough, you can create your own custom parts list and even add a car that already has them installed so you don't have to keep reconfiguring it. I made myself a 400bhp 2.4l i4 and a 400bhp (800bhp total) "stage 3" turbo kit for the Hirochi Sumburst and made slightly grippier tires for it and even got it added to the list of Sunburst choices in the menu. Sure, you'll have to know a bit about realistic torque curves and transmission ratios if you want to make a good transmission for your new engine, but it's not hard to research and if you own BeamNG, odds are you're already a gearhead so it shouldn't be an issue
Its just incredible what you can do when you put a good mind to it, this is a good example of showing what shitty crap coders can do compared to the FINE CORRECT BEAMNG MODDERS can do...
