Yes, all 3 of those cars are indeed mid engined. The reason for this snap oversteer in mid/rear engined cars is the weight distribution. most well sorted FR chassis have a perfect 50/50 distribution (or very close to it), and thus they have very predictable and responsive handling.

In a mid engined car, the distribution is rear biased (for reference, 54.7% of an AW11's mass is rear biased), thus the rear end is more prone to behaving like a "pendulum" during cornering. this causes the rear end to lose grip sharply and quickly than a well balanced chassis (i.e snap oversteer), especially as the car gets heavier and more powerful.

Porsches as you know are rear engined, with quite a bit of power, which results in their infamous "spin of death". The advantage of a mid engined vehicle is that the point at which the rear lets go is higher than that of an FR (meaning higher cornering speeds), but when the rear does let go it is harder to keep the vehicle under control (it certainly is possible to slide in a MR/RR vehicle and not die, you just need to be a Zen Master).

The key to driving the likes of the Bolide is to not slide in the first place (by being precise with your inputs). Should you start to slide, quickly ease off the power and countersteer. If you have a controller and use it properly, it's quite easy to drive a Bolide without crashing (though you do need to concentrate)

As for the TS50, that is FR (weight balance would be slightly front), so it's much more controllable on the limit compared to the MR roadsters.

I know they're all MR, I was going out on a limb to guess why. But I was rather surprised to learn of the rear bias, as despite the massive amount of time I spend absorbing car theory, I thought for some stupid reason that 50/50 weight distribution was one of the reasons to build an MR car and that most FR cars - at least the ones with big V8s - would be front-heavy (though certain sporty models have bucked that trend, for example the 48/52 Maserati Quattroporte V and the most recent Corvette) i.e. the 4th gen F-body which had about 57% nose weight IIRC.

Re: crazy high top speed with 390 GTS: you've got Lamborghini levels of horsepower with (probably) something closer to Ferrari aerodynamics, of course it's gonna be fast.

Not a 390 GTR, therefore invalid.

Also, gabester, if you want a name for an ultramodern "lower series" Civetta (not sure what the Fulmine is going to be yet), try Uragano. It means "hurricane" and sounds close enough to "Huracan" to be a clear reference to that car. "Mulinello" is whirlwind, "rinnegato" is renegade, and "martello" is hammer. Just a few suggestions for further Civetta cars.

Well, there are a number of factors that define how a car will handle (suspension setup plays a large part here), but the weight distribution of a vehicle usually can define it's handling behaviors. When I say FR has perfect weight distribution, that's more so on vehicles with lighter engines (i.e Toyota AE86, BMW E30, SA22 RX-7), heavy V8 engines in the front will throw off this distribution (unless clever engineering is at play, which is not the case on an 80's Camaro:p)

Anyway, the appeal then of an MR layout is that the weight is closer to the centre of the car, as opposed to being spread over the front and rear of the car, which is actually more important than just having a 50/50 distribution (Myth 4 explains this). This means the car will have more grip than an FR layout, but is much less forgiving on the limit. Basically, having the mass concentrated in between the axles is good for maintaining grip (I think), while 50/50 weight distribution is important for neutral handling (i.e no tendency for extreme understeer or oversteer)

    Understood, thanks.

Also, nice with the 390. I guess I figure if you're making a challenge of a difficult-to-control car you might as well go full insane.

The thing to consider with the bolide is that its a lightweight car with a high performance engine. you would never stomp on the gas with such a car yet that is all you can do on a keyboard. You'd never throw the wheel from lock to lock either, but that's all you can do on a keyboard.

The problem is simply the input method. Plus the traits MrIdiot (seriously bakasan, you have the wrong username) has described previously.

I can get the 390 around hirochi raceway on keyboard, its a bastard but can be done. It drives very nicely with an Xbox controller though.

Oh, it has no traction control.

Due to the entire drivetrain residing at the front, many fwd cars are forward biased, this in turn leads to some real fun weight transfer mechanics which make fwd cars far more interesting than rear to me.

since when was cornering the problem, I just read the entire last page and they were talking about top speed.

    Just watchin the original Gone in 60 Seconds and saw this;

Looks close in my opinion. I think it's a Pantera De Tomasso or something.

The discussion is kind of over but today i mastered the handling of Civetta Bolide. It took me kind of 31hrs of playing BeamNG. Ofcourse there was >15hrs dickin around with the physics and crashes and another ~7hrs of testing mods. But in this whole 31hrs of playing i thought the Civetta was just undrivable. I even wasnt able to drive this thing in a straight line without crashing or spinning after a couple of hundret meters. First i blamed the car, but then i blamed me. So i began driving the Covet as fast as i could without crashing. FWD in small car with not to much power is like in RL a lot easier to understand the driving physics/get the feeling for it. Then i discovered the Covet MRI mod and trained with that little dirty thing (btw my favourite mod atm <3). Took me 2hrs to corner consistent without crashing.

After that i felt kind of ready to try again my luck with the Bolide. So i took the 390GTR to a have a lot of rubber and put in the 320 engine. After some crashes in the beginning it freakin' worked out. Game crashed, took the 390GTR for another ride and forgot to put in the 320 engine again and realized it some minutes later after my first crash in that time. Now i drove 2hrs straight with that pretty car around Hirochi and it was just awesome. After that post i need to take just another ride.

I have to say this car is the most genius thing i ever expierenced in a racing game. Fucking steep learning curve but so rewarding when you got the feeling for it. 18€ for the game were worth it already a hundret times but the Civetta alone is worth it another hundred.
    Thanks gabester.

/it gives me chills doesnt mean what i meant. whoopdeedoo

Any chance of getting a Group 5/DRM version of the Bolide? Please? <3

After this most recent update, the civetta bolide seems to handle far, far better. I have noticed that the car doesn't spin out on takeoff without spinning the tires, which was my big beef. I have even taken the car around the sky curve, the grid one, not the concrete one. The bolide is very responsive and controllable. The best part, though, is when the car reaches the highest speeds; the car doesn't tilt to one side and gradually turn. The best part of the bolide is though, I now know how to drift it. all this was observed on a freaking keyboard.

Has the Bolide then become too easy? Italian cars of the period were not easy. It was more "you make mistake, I kill you!"
