I have a half finished conversion of a vehicle from GTA 4. How much of it do I have to remodel for it to be repo friendly? At the moment almost nothing is left the same except the windows and walls of it (Its a bus) The rest has been remodelled by me or from the DT40L. Also all textures are from BeamNG or are custom.
You need to be able to legally use everything uploaded to repo, so every part of the mesh would have to be modelled by yourself/from BeamNG/used with full permission of the original author. This would extent to trademarked names and designs, I'm not sure off the top of my head but I would reckon the original name and maybe even the exact design and proportions could be protected in some way and therefore would be a bit of a minefield (especially given the source game's publisher is well known as one of the most trigger happy companies there is for dmca takedowns), and therefore not repo friendly. To be honest the fact you'd consider it a conversion from GTA and not an original mod that's just inspired by GTA in it's current state should tell you what you need to know there
Okay thanks, I will remodel the last little bit to be inspired rather then a conversion. Only thing actually left from the original model is the window design. Front is remodelled for more realistic lights (though keeping the tri light setup) rear is different to accommodate for the engine, obviously all internals are custom/taking from the DT40L, no more weird roof hump, no longer the same length or proportions, super thick side trim has been replaced, bumpers taken from the DT40L, interior also from the DT40L. Yeah pretty much nothing is left except the spirit and windows. You think thats repo friendly enough?
just slap on a beamng logo on the car and itll be legal or just have no logo anywhere on the car youd be good --- Post updated --- what i mean by beamng logo i mean like a bastion and that
As long as all of the content itself is stuff you are allowed to use and it's not infringing on any potentially trademarked names etc of another company it should be fine
