I didn't sign my code with a certificate. That costs hundrets of dollars a year. There must be a small link "more info" on the blue message dialog where you have the possibility to run the installer. See There must be a problem with the tiffs or a bug I dont know yet. For a test, try only one of the tiffs. The first one is essential because all the other tiffs report the first one has a different size. Maybe the first one is not okay. So test 1 alone, and then two alone, and afterwards you try all except the first one. Report back and good luck.
so, from what I've seen, the tiles are ok alone but if they come together with any of the other tiles it messes it up
I fixed it by clearing my download folder except for the tif tiles, there were other tiles and I think the tool tried to read them and stitch them too
Mixed content in folder is bad. Only the tiles should be in the folder. With the file selection you can select multiple files of your choice at once. --- Post updated --- The start is always the hardest
Bingo! I had a lot of things already prepared for this. Now I start the real feature. I first want to get the bridge deck right. Then I start with a better representation of bridges.
After several changes unrelated to BeamNG Mapping Tools almost all my textures are starting to look great
Hydraulic Erosion works just fine. Thanks to @OwnTheBanks (Discord) to heading towards that feature. See left enabled vs right disabled. Very nuanced erosion in the valley. But my default values are way too low. You see the values here which I used for this example. This is dem-data from La Palma which has a 2m dem. If you have lower dem it is really great to push details.
Thank you Alex. I increased Screen Error to 512 and can for the life of me not perceive any difference. Neither in looks nor performance. My guess is my performance issues might be because of too much vegetation (grass).
I had the same experience with these generic theterrain.ter files popping up. This was also messing with texturing due to the tool and beam falsely recognising these as the intended terrain. Before you load the level again in the tool or in beam, make sure you delete all generic theterrain.ter files and their corresponding json. That has worked for me so far.
When I try to generate the terrain it says "Validation failed" with no further explanation. What does this mean? Edit: never mind. I just needed to change the elevation height
Is there going to be a Linux version of this tool? If not, is there a way to get it running under Linux? Every time I select my BeamNG installation path, it says that it is not a valid path, and the screen for the tool stays completely white: https://imgur.com/a/SRV5jOg Edit: I was able to set the path (I was just misunderstanding the setup instructions), but the screen for the tool is still completely white.
So I made a few experiments, and the performance definitely ISN'T because of the grass because of dynamic reflections etc. because of screen error adjustments because of tons of backroads etc. since I have only imported and smoothed the main road Comparing Italy to my mountain road which has the same size but is using lots of LOD and culling optimizations I have come to the conclusion that it must be the huge terrain block causing this. So I was wondering Alex: If I make the terrain from SwissTopo (which has it all chopped up in segments) will your tool make several small terrains stitched together or will it fuse them all into one huge terrain block? In short, can the performance be better even though the elevation resolution is higher? BTW @The Adamantite Waffle: There is a post in this very thread just a couple days/weeks ago where someone got the tool to work in Linux by installing a couple Windows thingamajigs, scroll back a bit and you shall find it
Ah ok interesting Yeah, I can try that, my very first versions were at 1m resolution. The current one looks like 0.5m resolution. Would be interesting how it looks now with the more advanced road smoothing function It's interesting, when I use a purely vanilla Miramar and no mods, no custom skybox etc.: I get about 75 FPS in Italy (that has over 200.000 Forest assets and tons and tons of materials and meshes) and about 55 FPS in my map (that has only 20.000 Forest assets, 14 materials and almost nothing placed yet) And the FPS are not the whole story somehow … it constantly displays 55 FPS but especially in 3rd person chase view its like playing at 75% speed EDIT: So A.I. states that BeamNG does intentionally slow down on big terrains: I cite: When BeamNG.drive drops below 60 FPS due to heavy CPU bottlenecks, the physics engine intentionally slows down time (1.0× speed drops to 0.75× speed) to keep the simulation stable instead of skipping frames. A 16 km² map at a 0.5-meter grid resolution creates an overwhelmingly massive heightmap array (8000 × 8000 points, or 64 million vertices) that overloads the physics system, especially when the camera must dynamically compute collision data in chase view. So is that truth or hallucination? The numbers seem wrong already. Even more interestingly, it states that you can reduce the physics grid resolution without changing the visual appearence: i cite again: 2. Adjust Terrain Physics Size Why it helps: You can lower the physics grid resolution without changing your visual map. The fix: Open the World Editor (F11), select your TerrainBlock object, and locate the squareSize variable. The result: Increasing squareSize from 0.5 to 1 or 2 drastically reduces the CPU load by widening the distance between physics calculation nodes. Gonna have a try and report back if it works
@Crumple Zone I tried following @E32k 's steps (installing corefonts, vcrun2019, dotnet48, and webview2), but I got multiple errors: dotnet48 failed to install, with many wine uninstaller windows appearing, and the terminal telling me that both dotnet48 and 40 don't fully work or are even capable of installing on linux (as seen here https://imgur.com/a/lUSWK8Y) webview2 is not a valid package name, and the winetricks cli tells me that it's an invalid argument. When I looked into installing webview2 on Linux, it seems to be a really annoying task. How did you do it, E32k? Edit: I did end up getting dotnet 4.8 to install, but now, opening the application causes it to crash: https://imgur.com/a/VvAxhrY Edit 2: I did get webview2 to install by going to Microsoft's website: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/?form=MA13LH I originally installed dotnet48 by running: WINEARCH=win64 WINEPREFIX=~/.winetest/ winetricks -q dotnet48 Edit 3: Even after installing both of those packages, the level editor fails to load and crashes, like in the imgur link, and running it with those winearch and wineprefix appends still gives the white screen issue.
