BeamNG should remain PC exclusive and un-consolized.

the game's minimum configuration according to Steam is a 8th gen Core i5 and a GTX 1060.
assuming the equivalent CPU according to you is a Ryzen 7 2700 (which is coincidentally a gen older than the 3700 that is listed in the recommended requirements), the PS5 shouldn't have trouble running BeamNG.

"some quantity of memory always being reserved for system functions" yeah, thats how a fucking operating system functions.
at this point you're just seething that a game is becoming more accessible to a wider audience.
"spend 2000 dollars and get yourself a PC" dude, i literally found just below 4000 used car listings in road worthy condition for like 1500. the average person is gonna at most spend 1000 dollars on a PC, and the Steam hardware survey proves it.

the PS5 is close in specs to the average PC running Steam right now. not everyone can afford to buy an entire workstation to play a silly car game. if anything, the game being on PS5 can benefit PC players if it means the game will be better optimized.

that's what I thought as well, however I read the PS5 runs a proprietary FreeBSD based system with a custom CPU and everything

so it's even more impressive how they managed to port the entire game (which requires the graphics engine and many other vital components to be rewritten from scratch because the PS5 uses Sony's proprietary graphics APIs, which are entirely different from standard PC APIs) and have it run good enough to record a gameplay trailer with good graphics as well

and if people say "oh if the devs can port an entire game from Windows to a proprietary FreeBSD system why cant they do the same for linux" it's because the PS5 has standard hardware that the game can be optimized for while Linux computers all have different CPUs, GPUs, and even architectures (x86_64 vs arm64)

my laptop runs WORSE than a ps5 and it STILL runs without removing any features. the game can run on a steam deck, someone even tried running it on a phone. i believe the ps5 will get its own graphics setting tuned for the console without removing shit

That's actually a good point, with the release of the PS5 version, most of BeamNG's releases will be for Unix-like operating systems (FreeBSD and Linux). What's one more to add with macOS?

i legit jumped out of happyness and i dont even own a ps5 and they are planning more and the game looks so much beter im happy to see even multiplayer could be coming to the future. the devs are not slowing down or stopping any time soon. the ps5 will be stuck on at normal or high max if you think they wont make the game beter you are mistaken.

While I don't agree with the OP, there is one legitimate concern I have about the PS5 port:

    Mods.

Sony is notable for taking an anti-modding stance (just look at Fallout 4, and the difference between Creation Club content available for Playstation and Xbox), so I'm worried the BeamNG devs might compromise in that department, just to appease Sony.

If it was an Xbox port, then I wouldn't be worried in the slightest.

They will probably have a secondary repo of only proper mods. So MapNG slop and mods that add almost nothing will not be included.

I also fear that BeamNG on PlayStation is somehow going to be worse, especially if it ends up in a Cities:Skylines situation, where the PC version is the only moddable version. Also, what would happen to the world editor? I presume the PS5 port would come without it, but what if someone wants to edit in assets, technically one could just hook up a keyboard and hit F11, but what if the PS5 version just lacks a world editor? I hope we don't get a...

"This feature is PC only, you must buy the PC release to do this"
    "But I don't have a-"
    "womp womp"

...Situation. I don't want to come off as a "PC defender", I'm actually happy that more people get to enjoy BeamNG.drive, and with the new multiplayer, it's going to be even more fun interacting with even more people than on BeamMP... as long as PS5 and PC servers aren't separate, which is a thing that could happen too.

If the PS4 allows you to hook up a keyboard and mouse to play the Sims 4 better (not that you'd want to), I'm sure the PS5 would allow the same for BeamNG.

Somehow I doubt that. I think (if Sony does allow BeamNG mods) that they'll most likely employ stricter moderation, so slop doesn't end up on the repo in the first place.

The best part is that Apple has tools now that allow you to compile for the macOS and ARM on other platforms. All the devs really need to do is grab themselves a decently spec'd Mac Mini for testing and they're off to the races.

If it works on console it works. It shouldn't affect PC and I'm sure they wont change the game for PC if they make it for PS5. Maybe just chill out over the whole thing. So what if it gets released on PS5? if it's bad, you're still on PC lol. Please don't reply, unless you actually have a good reason to argue against me.

My guess would be that the PS5 version is going to be more gaming-focused, leaving mod development to PC. It makes sense, having all the conforts of development in PC, while having the actual full gaming-focused device set up for just enjoying the game.

I don't think that the PS5 will have the world editor available (probably just a console, similarly to the Valve games ported to PS3 and X360), and I would be surprised if it even had the repo (as evidenced by Sony's behaviour). My guess is that BeamNG for consoles (I think an Xbox version is bound to happen, just not now) will be similar to AC for consoles: a distilled, vanilla experience, with hours of fun but limited to the standard console tendencies.

That being said, with a dev team like Beam's, who knows? Maybe there could be an agreement for the repo, or perhaps some modded cars could be included as free DLC (with the partnership of its developers, obviously); and it will expand the game to massive new horizons!
