If you missed the incident, let me break down what happened. At around 6:20pm, Western Australia time, a BeamMP worker pinged everyone in their discord server got pinged about BeamMP getting hacked. I didn't read the full message as I was playing a game. I tabbed to the BeamMP Discord server and tried to find the original message, but all the channels were taken over and renamed to #bye-beammp, pinging everyone multiple times. It got to the point where I got 3k+ pings before I left that server. After I left the server, the BeamNG.drive discord people were panicking about BeamMP, what could have possibly caused this, and if the mod has a virus in it. If anyone has any further information, please include it in the replies. In my opinion, a Developer's account was compromised and injected with a spam bot that changed all the channels of the discord server into #bye-beammp and flooded all those channels. They could have also somehow found a way to make it so that Discord couldn't load the messages to make the compromised account not visible to the BeamMP discord members. If any Devs are reading this, could you please correct me if I'm wrong? Thanks.
No I don’t think beamnp is dead, it is just down for now until they resolve this problem, unless this is all fake and it’s just for attention
Since you got spooked and left I joined and found a channel explaining what happened. TL;DR: The forum and server back-end for BeamMP got broken into, the multiplayer servers themselves MAY have been shut down just in case but no attack on the "game" side got confirmed. Data potentially seen by the malicious actor includes but may not be limited to: Usernames, Mail address, IP used to register the account, last IP used, linked accounts info (as in, what discord and steam account would be linked to your beamMP forum account) and public content. The actor also got access to admin credentials in the discord server and renamed everything to "#bye-beammp" and wiped the chat logs clean. They claim they somehow got access to a bot account that had admin roles. The passwords for the forums were salted but just in case still suggest to reset them (not just in the forums but overall, to be safe). Hindsight may be 20/20, but this is why I never liked registering on sites if it could be avoided.
I hate it when people will hack websites and ruin it for everybody else because the can’t think straight
Good to see a fellow West aussie OT I think as said before, its a harmless hack, but i would still not touch it for a bit, Lucky i have not used beam MP since 2023ish I like Single player lol
BeaMP will be back after they sort everything out. I watched the beamMP discord get hijacked in real time and the subsequent chaos that ensued in the BeamNG discord and you would think it was 9/11. The Beam community is great, but they are an excitable bunch for sure…
For real like they worked hard on the mod, they did nothing wrong and suddendly a random russian dude comes and decides to raid the discord server by taking the bot's token and saying our pc has now a virus when it doesn't and posting a random pic of a russian youtuber in red and blurred. Literally no point in doing this unless you have nothing to do --- Post updated --- They said "We do not have a guaranteed timeline at this point. We've been hoping to have a barebones version of the mod online at some point today, but I haven't seen any confirmed statements from the development team to suggest that we're close enough to ready yet." but its probably gonna be back in the following days or weeks
hopefully its up by the end of tommorow. i was gonna do some stuff with my friend, and then all the hacking shit happened.
how should i go about uninstalling beammp? i havent opened it but if someone could tell me that'd be great if theres a certain way i should uninstall it just to be safe
I'm honestly surprised BeamNG GmbH themselves haven't said anything, as BeamMP seems to be quite the major pillar of the community.
