Introducing the Juyeon CH498-Y Haebalagi! THE BRAND LORE: Juyeon (or "Leading Star" in English or "주연" in Hangul) is North Korea's second automobile manufacturer (the first being Seongchwi, makers of the Illkun) and it was established in 1984 after a North Korean diplomat visited Japan in 1981 and became infatuated with the topic of automobiles after a visit to the Ibishu plant in Tokyo. 3 years later, 50 Ibishu Pigeons were (very legally) exported to North Korea and were... not studied at all. No, instead they changed the front fascia, rebadged every part of the Pigeon (apart from the engine which had it's Ibishu badge modified to say "Libishu") and it was sold as an "Agricultural Transportation Helper" known as the Juyeon TP160-DL which was produced from 1984 all the way until 2002, other cars sold by Juyeon include rebadged Gavrils such as the H-Series (sold as the BL2) and the Roamer which was sold in 2010 as the "Juyeon XL" for 6 months in 2010 before the company itself went under due to a lack of funding from the government. They also sold a knock-off Gen 1 Ibishu Pessima (which is this mod), known as the "Juyeon CH498-Y Haebalagi" (which roughly translates to Juyeon Sunflower) CAR LORE: In the 1990s a North Korean diplomat visited Japan on a trip to try and strike a deal involving exporting cars from Japan to North Korea to be legally sold under the Juyeon name. Unfortunately this plan fell through but whilst that diplomat was there he managed to take snap a couple of pictures of a car known as the "Ibishu Pessima". A few years later in 2002, that same North Korean diplomat came across the old photos of the Pessima and decided to start manufacturing a North Korean version. The only problem: They hadn't imported any Pessima's, so he decided to completely wing the operation, basing everything off those blurry, grainy photos he took back in the 90s. The result was... something. It looked very accurate at the front but at the side and rear, the illusion of it being a real Pessima quickly begins to fade. If there's one good thing you could say about the car it's that the interior was surprisingly accurate to the Pessima (even if several things such as the tachometer and radio were removed due to budget reasons) The Haebalagi (Sunflower) became the most-sold car in the DPRK for 6 years straight before sales started to decline due to new models being unveiled and sold by Seongchwi. Despite Juyeon's closure in 2010, the Haebalagi somehow managed to be sold up until 2016 in a rather odd way, the Juyeon name was still being used albeit in a "zombie-like state" and the Haebalagi's themselves were being built and sold as-is by scrapyard owners taking unsold examples with many buyers complaining of missing parts, declining reliability and a rather quick distaste towards the brand (despite it going under 6 years prior) ...sounds a bit like British Leyland honestly. QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE: 1. Will this be a free mod? A. Of course! Afterall, who would charge for a badge-engineered BeamNG car? 2. Will it be available on the repo/repository? A. Maybe, I'm not too sure how the process goes for getting your mod onto the repo. I do want to have it on there though, just depends if this is something that is repo-worthy or not. 3. When are you releasing this? A. Sometime this year. If I really wanted to, I could release it now in it's early, obvious Pessima rebadged stage but I'm not going to because I feel that I could make this a lot better than it currently is. One thing's for sure though, it will be coming out at sometime this year (a Pessima rebadge isn't something I should dedicate the rest of the year to) IMAGES: THE EVENTUAL PLAN: By the time this is finished, I'm hoping to get the following things done: BODY STYLES: Sedan (Stock/Base) Cut-&-Shut Pick-up (Very poor D.I.Y attempt at a pick-up, would just be the sedan with the rear end chopped off) There might be more body styles produced for this mod but one thing that I will say now before anything else, these "extra body styles" will be available for download separately to the original car, this is because I'm not too familiar with how to package a mod with several, new body styles. NOTES: It may seem very obvious, but this is my FIRST mod. It's not perfect and above all, it's obviously not something complex. I'm open to suggestions! If you want to see something from this mod, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I'm also open to help on this mod, I've been working on it as a fun thing by myself for the past week or so but I think it would be better with some much-needed help!
The pics are up now! It's pretty much just identical to a Gen 2 Pessima at the moment (a bit dissapointing) apart from the sport grille being the stock grille and then the grille itself being wider. I did add a bit in the description though about my plan for the fascia. Basically I'm going for a mix between a Daewoo Espero and Volkswagen Passat B4.
Yep!, the Interior should hopefully become a bit more Volkswagen-ish (I'm thinking something along the lines of the Bora) The bumpers will also be replaced eventually with ones that are styled more like the B4 Passat. As for engines I'm hoping to add a 1.6 litre engine along with a 1.9 litre TDI engine. The rear fascia will also be changed eventually to look a bit more like the Bora. --- Post updated --- All of the textures just dissapeared for some reason. Tried restarting the game and the textures are still gone.... any suggestions anyone?
Yeah?? I don't see the issue here. It's a lore friendly car, not everything with the parts has to line up perfectly with a real-life counterpart time-wise. It's also not as if I'm just going to model 1 to 1 replicas of those fascias, I'm just simply going to draw inspiration/design cues from both of them (in addition to the shape/style of the Gen 2 Pessima's fascia) to shape the front fascia design for the Tigra.
As I said, it's not as if I'm just directly copying the fascia and slapping it into the body of the Pessima with a poor fit. I'm simply taking inspiration from it. If anything, I'd only be using the headlight design from the Espero and the grille from the B4 Passat and then incorporating those designs into the style of the Gen 2 Pessima as best as I can. As far as the lore for the Tigra goes though, none of those parts preceeded the Tigra at any point and, as far as the lore is concerned, those "early 90s" fascia parts were parts made specifically for the Tigra at the time. The car is also in the very early stages of development right now, those plans can change. It's just what I think would be a good fit for now. As the mod progresses it'll all make more sense. You can't expect something to be fully fleshed out a day after it's posted on the forums. Put simply, I'm taking inspiration from those cars and updating certain aspects of them to fit the design of the Gen 2 Pessima. Additionally, I don't get the logic of a car starting from the mid 90's being "unable" to have a fascia from the early 90's. The Austin Maestro was sold as a "new" car in China during the 90s despite the car itself having a design originating from the 80s. --- Post updated --- Having a lot of problems with the textures, they've all gone for some reason. Tried replacing the .dae model with one from a regular Gen 2 Pessima but I've still got errors. Same goes for the opposite (adding the modified Tigra dae to a Gen 2 Pessima file) May have to restart the whole thing.
No. As I said in the description, I'm planning a lot more stuff. I'm changing the front fascia, rear fascia, interior, wheels and then also adding some unique body styles (like a wagon, coupe, convertible and a prototype version) Basically everything will be changed apart from the side profile. Just need to get a bit better at Blender first before I go any further. I know at the moment it does just look like a basic rebadge but by the time it comes out, it should hopefully look a lot better!
These aren't hte same thing, in the Maestro case, it's only the design style being 80s, not the facia called "80s facia". If you call a facia "90s facia", it means the facia was first produced in the 90s, depite its style being from 80s, 70s, or even before-war
I love how many brands have rebadged the Pessima at this point. No matter where you go, you’re bound to see a Pessima.
Honestly I didn't know other people had done Pessima rebadges lol. Only one I've heard of was the Hirochi Cheapo (used in a BeamNG car rebadge tutorial which I used to make this) On the up side though, this isn't going to be a Pessima rebadge by the time it releases. Instead, it'll be a sort of cut-and-shut job with a different fascia, interior and rear fascia and other body styles.
That’s good to know! I typically just pick and choose which brand rebadges I think make the most sense in order to determine which ones are true in my mind. I’m excited to see how this differs from the base Pessima. The different interior you mention has me excited!
