They just said that the lights and engine will be redone, not a refresh. That would mean that the entire refresh would have been just PBR, nice lights, and a better engine. Sure, I could do the same to a 2018 mod and call it a day . It still lacks so much. Look at the Hirochi Aero bus released a couple years ago. The grab on handles hanging from the roof sway, you can open the doors separately, and the J-beam is good. The Wentward's jbeam is ok but has miles of room for improvement. It also has no longer and shorter variants. All I'm trying to say is that there's so much potential that many players may be overlooking .
It would still be an entire rework of the internals, its not out of this world for it to also get some content. For example the interior was made super interactive to match the Wentward school bus. Its now one of the most interactive interiors.
I think there's just not as big of a potential audience for bus content as there is for off-roaders, trucks, or race cars. I wouldn't mind if the Wentward was refreshed in 0.39, but like I said, the spring update's crucial for the year's performance. 0.12's release was the start of a year-long period of rather unsuccessful updates, and 0.36 didn't increase the overall peak for the first time since 0.28 (and it's been the third update since 0.17 to not raise the overall peak). I hope that we get at least one more wagon, but the devs have historically been averse to adding them. That's likely because it's one of the least-useful body styles for career mode/gameplay (not significantly more hauling or towing capacity than a sedan, worse for racing due to the added weight and lower chassis stiffness, while being complex to model). That's likely part of the reason why we've been seeing more unique body styles lately (Miramar ute, GM limo, Nine, MD bus/armored truck, Scintilla/Bolide targas). We kind of already have that with facelifts for various vehicles - those are a lot cheaper and easier to add than whole new vehicles for different generations, and people really like them. Also, any extra generations of current vehicles could be criticized for being "too similar" - we already had that issue with the LeGran/Wendover (which is why the Wendover is a coupe). When we're already struggling to get more than a couple new cars a year (and even that's a stretch), I think more people would prefer to get all-new vehicles that fill certain niches. One vehicle that would be a new generation of a current vehicle and fill a new niche (or multiple) while using current parts is a '90s Miramar. The current Miramar is fairly similar to the Corona Mark II of the period in size, mechanicals, and styling (for the facelift), and they both have sedan, coupe, and ute body styles. The Mark II later had the Cresta (luxury version) and Chaser (performance version) in the '80s and '90s, with all-wheel-drive and straight-six engines. This '90s Miramar would probably would be too close to the '96 Pessima in size and age, but it would give a proper Japanese counterpart to the ETKs and GM. It also could add another hardtop to the game, and it could even use an enlarged BX platform, similar to how the Wendover/Lansdale use LeGran chassis components. Of course, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon, but that is one route to doing a new generation of vehicle that I think people would enjoy.
I think a 2020s generation for the Roamer/D series would do numbers. Both would be on the same more modern frame, making it far less time consuming, and most of the North America community wants a modern SUV and Pickup.
I've been thinking about this recently... I wonder if they will change the game versioning so that it starts with the year. here's an example: v0.35 would be v25.1 v0.36 would be v25.2 v0.37 would be v25.3 v0.38 would be v25.4 I wonder if v0.39 will actually be v26.1. Apple and Minecraft are already doing something similar to this
Anyone else think we are due for a destruction update? An update to cosmetic damages and debris ect, all stuff people have asked for for years. Plus with GTA 6, its damage will be much more “Pretty” looking with smaller dents, tiny pieces of debris, ext, all stuff BeamNG needs to add to keep their title (In terms of realistic aftermath and smaller damage details lacking at the moment) Just a little thought I have. The game badly needs more pieces of small plastic and glass debris that don't disappear after a crash. Basically the current particle system needs to have 3D geometry for debris and for it to not despawn till you reset the car. --- Post updated --- Just to add on to what I said, using the existing particles and replacing the pngs with actual models, and keeping them from disappearing so quickly. The PNG particles already interact with the environment.
I agree, also to add to that, a better damage system for lights ie the outside lens being broken but the bulb still working. One example i can think of is mafia 3, how you can have a busted taillight but still have it work.
Speaking of lights, it would be cool to have an option that you could enable where the lights on cars would have issues. For example, one brake light could be not working, the blinkers could be flashing faster than normal, or certain lights could be simply very dim. This was very common on cars when they aged until they began receiving LED lights.
Yeah, the vertex (https://www.beamng.com/resources/gavril-vertex-na2.13061/) has a similar thing but with the dashboard warning lights, would be very cool in-game. Adding to that, they could eventually blow? But that's only the POTENTIAL future. --- Post updated --- Yes, and at slow speeds the car would just bounce back, slightly dented, but still running.
It would be easy to add little dents can be cosmetic with normal maps, and this would be simpler than scratches since colour wouldnt be effected.
After GTA 6 comes out, I think most people who just want to smash cars will leave this game like you said. I saw the leaked footage and it looked like the crash mechanics are really fun. If BeamNG doesn’t add anything extra to its damage system besides being a "real-time softbody" simulator, it might fall behind in this area. I think crashes should look cooler and more dangerous than they do now. Things like stronger sounds and more flying debris would help. Have you ever seen a real accident? It is very loud, a bit scary, and has a deeper, heavier sound. Not the sound of a crushed tin can.
BeamNG has never been anything but soft body sandbox with a nice mod support, GTA is no competition. The same could be said with GTA V and even IV. Yet, people still play BeamNG, and if I recall correctly recently the sales started going up again.
im not huge in the gta news world but how yall know gta 6 gonna have detailed auto damage? doesnt seen like the game to feature that
