i have a question, do people from other countries all think Americans all have cars that are huge obnoxious and too loud? i read alot of automotive news and whenever theres a article about trucks or tahoes etc, people always comment about 'why do americans like big cars?' or 'amercians like to feel big so they show off with big cars' or 'american cars are bigger then ever' i could go on... as a american in rural america i can say, yes we do love our big cars i see suburbans every 10mins and old s10 pickups quite commonly, and its pretty normal, as im guessing a vw golf is in the UK, some people dont understand why we like them, i think one reason is people usually have multiple kids but also people who maybe have one kid but a tahoe or wagoneer for example, i think like the way they look and or feel more safe then perhaps in a malibu or a e-class, especially with our open roads and fast highways, i also think we just are used to big cars and technically american cars today are smaller then they were 50 years ago like the chrysler new yorker or 1975 suburban, plus another reason is we can afford the fuel, gas or petrol is considerably cheaper then in other countries so its slightly cheaper to refuel your turbo v8 tahoe now there is a lot of people in america that dont have big cars, the accord is large compared to some euro sedans but certainly not big and the civic or corolla are some of the most popular cars for people that dont need big suvs just wondering peoples thoughts and opinions, and thought i would explain weird american habits as a american with multiple volvos and would not own a new american car for quality reasons,
As a Mexican who sees big pickup trucks often and has seen land yachts before, I don't think they're that big and loud. A Ford Expedition is around the same height as me.
Not all by any means, but some. But then much of the US has big wide streets where everything feels very spread out, so they fit! In places like the UK, Japan, or the city suburbs here in New Zealand it's common to have narrower / winding 2-way streets where even smaller-sized cars have to give way to oncoming vehicles to get past a parked car. Usually the developers aren't so smart, but there's a relatively new subdivision near my parents' place which has built-in bays for street parking. Seems like a really nice solution:
