I wonder if the tool on the grid map that changes the texture could be utilized on other maps too. Maybe change to different seasons? Switching the texture of the terrain and objects is really all that would require (as shown by some winterized maps on the repo) which is what it already does. Would be pretty cool.
If we are getting an MD-Series expansion next update (Which is all but guaranteed atp) I hope we get bigger box truck upfits with attics like you see on U-Haul trucks. Would go perfect with a gasoline engine
I’ve been wanting this for a while. Would be great on the H-Series too, or maybe even a refrigerator upfit
I'm pretty sure the sound is taken from a 2019 Mustang GT, which actually has a different firing order from most other crossplane V8s, so the sound shouldn't change based around the exhaust, but more like either the ECU or engine block
its very much a copy of a 4.6 ford, sounding to me most like a 2005+ 3 valve variant without any mufflers. they could change the sound based on ecu but if it's gonna vary from engine to engine it should be long block since that changes the cams and compression and whatnot. all that is even simulated but there's no audio change
exhaust manifolds are probably the single most effective part at changing an engine's sound (the classic example is subarus with UEL or EL headers). Ideally it'd be great if they could use separate samples for log manifolds, or for fancy equal length 4- or 6-into-1 headers, and even open exhaust port sounds for the derby cars and hotrods with "zoomies", but unless AngetheGreat gets his Engine Sim to the point of being able to synthesise these sounds, it's unlikely they'd be able to get a full library of everything. interestingly, it seems like some engines already have a rough approximation of "open headers", by mixing in a different sample when there's no exhaust equipped, most notably the SBR and sunburst (which both revert to the old "crackly" sound), and the grand marshal, which reverts to the generic V8 sound currently used by all the other V8s. I think the engines most in need of improved samples would be the legran/wendover V6, the real buick V6 has a unique rumble due to its odd firing order, but they currently sound like every other raspy V6.
I was thinking about it and I wonder if we're going to get some more trailers to pull with the MD Series and D Series. Personally I would kill for an RV/Toy Hauler and an Enclosed Gooseneck, and it would slot in perfectly with a summer update
I doubt they're going to add more trailers any time soon, unfortunately, according to this post. At least, not those types of trailers.
100%. The flathead inline-4 is also severely lacking and needs a lot of love (which the devs already acknowledged in the 0.34 patch notes). "Added new audio for i4 flathead engine/exhaust. This does not rev high, so have mixed in a current i4 for the higher RPMs - we will continue to look for better source material"
The existing V6 sound is no good for the older Bruckell 3.3 and 3.8 V6s either. These engines are larger and older tech than the Ibishu 2.7 V6 (for which this sound is just fine, I believe), so they should sound more basey, growly and rumbly. More like their sources of inspiration, in other words. And since they're OHV, they could also have a discreet V8-like rumble and cam chop on idle when straight-piped/without any exhaust (like in the car below). The start-up sound is accurate though, so it's ok. What isn't accurate either is the 6000rpm rev limiter for the LeGran and Wendover models. The Lansdale has them absolutely correct (5100rpm for the standard 3.3, 4800rpm for the standard 3.8, 5200rpm for the standard 4.4 V8). Also, it would be really nice to see the 3.8 V6 mounted lengthwise, being turbocharged and powering an 80s RWD Bruckell Midsizer! In general, the 70s-80s malaise era has a lot of potential in BeamNG and the material already exists!
