Guys, is it just me or does it seem like the update is coming sooner than usual? May be just wishful thinking but the consistency of the teasers, their substantive content as well as the announcement regarding older Windows systems kind of leads me to such conclusion. All there is to show in terms of teasers is maybe some gameplay related stuff, the whole sunburst and that's it. I'd say 2 weeks from now if not earlier. There was a similar announcement about the 32-bit deprecation which came less than 3 weeks before the actual update.
It wouldn't surprise me if the update was sped up in development due to not having to support older Windows systems. I don't quite know how much time is spent on supporting those systems, but Nadeox mentioned that a big part of developing the new powertrain code for 0.8 was spent making it backwards-compatible with mods. I think that making updates compatible for W7/8.1 might've taken a week or two of development per update - if so, I can see why the devs would've wanted to not support it anymore (along with the issues listed in the devblog post). (Also, the 32-bit deprecation announcement came out on April 25, 2022, which is about seven weeks before 0.25 came out (June 15, 2022).)
It could be nice with some major improvements but it doesn't seem to really fit with the boxers edit: probably a very low chance but there could be a very slight chance of an NA flat 6 like in the outbacks and legacies but that might not make the most sense edit 2: a maybe more likely addition would be a turbo diesel boxer which would be a really cool option for an export version such as European version and hopefully JDM trims
Yeah, I think it's fairly likely that the Sunburst (and maybe the SBR?) could get JDM versions in the remaster, since that's become a more common thing over the years. I don't think we'll get EUDM versions, as vehicles tend to have either US/EU or US/JP versions. As of right now, we have: -EUDM/USDM: Bolide, Scintilla, Lansdale, I-Series, 800 Series, K-Series (6) -JDM/USDM: Covet, BX (2) -EUDM only: Piccolina, Stambecco, possibly the FCV (3) -JDM only: Pigeon, Wigeon, Miramar (3) -Non-road-legal: Wydra, Dunekicker, Rockbouncer, Autobuggy, Aurata (5) -USDM only: Nine, Moonhawk, LeGran, Wendover, Grand Marshal, Barstow, Burnside, Bluebuck, Bastion, D/H/Roamer, '96 Pessima, '88 Pessima, Wentward, T/MD, Hopper, Sunburst, SBR (20)
To be fair, Gabester (who's from the US) designed many of the cars in the game, so it does make sense. (And the US is also a large market with a lot of money (for now, at least) - hence why so many games take place in it (or have DLCs that do).) The GTA series, for instance, is mostly made by Rockstar North/DMA, which is in Scotland, but only two of its games have taken place outside of the US. (GTA London 1969 and 1961, expansions for GTA1 from 1999 - ironically, those were made by Rockstar Canada.) There were a few games (Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and Chinatown Wars) that were co-developed by Rockstar Leeds, in England.
You're correct for noting the extremely extensive way the Sunburst is being remade but there's the other side of the coin as well and that side says that the car had no point in being the way it is right now. Ibishu, Hirochi's compatriot competition, already has plenty of transverse I4-powered models to compete in the lore, and the same is also true of various other BeamNG car makes and models that use the same powertrain configuration. With 8 car models using this design (LeGran, Covet, Wendover, '88 Pessima, Lansdale, '96 Pessima, Vivace and Tograc), the Sunburst would be "just another car" if it used it too. It wouldn't stand out. And I'm glad Ferrettank recognized this as well. Hirochi has a great potential to become the Boxer brand of BeamNG, just like Ibishu is the I4 brand, Cherrier is the I5 brand, ETK is the I6 brand, the newfound Belasco-Diesel brand is the commercial diesel I6/V8 brand (with a very possible extension to the Full-Size Pick-Up Truck diesel engine production, too) and Bruckell and Gavril are the big OHV V8 brands! --- Post updated --- Nope, it makes no sense. There's gonna be a large gap behind the engine, in the transmission tunnel. Besides, Ibishu's I4s can definitely get modern generations so as to be exactly what you say. No big of a loss, really!
0.34 had 5 total teasers THEN released . We are exactly at 5 teasers for 0.35 .... They showed 2 map changes related to rallye , the funny video with the devs and his doors panels , the new world editor tool and the new Surbust powertrain ... I'm predicting that maybe , yes maybe , it's gonna drop next week ! If not , im sure they will show what the Sunburst Remake will look like by sharing a gameplay picture and then they will release 0.35 ! Can't wait for Teaser Tuesday !
One of the teasers is also related to drifting! Teasers aside, a next-week release is a bit steep, so my guess is early April. If anything, spring has to get in first, so that the update announcement article has this theme too!
The rally stuff was shown on East Coast and is probably just props and not part of the level. The other one was a drift course on a currently empty infield on West Coast.
Oh, no, it's very nice (and somewhat predictable, considering that Jared has said before that the Sunburst should've had an F4), and it is good that Hirochi's become the "boxer brand" of the Beamverse. And indeed, the 'Burst would now have a distinctive drivetrain style (that no other car in the game's used so far) to distinguish it from the FCV, '88 Pessima, LeGran, and I-Series. It's just that all the other remasters didn't really tend to mess with the powertrains that much - it was mostly quality updates - so, I kinda expected the Sunburst to still have transverse L4s. Also, I just found this quote from Gabester from years ago saying that the Sunburst is meant to have JDM variants. Considering all the other old promised things we've gotten in the past five years (H-Series side doors, BX Gavril V8 swap), and that the Covet and BX also got JDM variants, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sunburst get JDM variants, as well. Speaking of boxer-powered vehicles, hopefully, if/when the Picco gets its remaster/refresh (more likely the latter), it finally gets a 900cc engine or some other sub-1L engine. (Since the Covet got a 1.3L engine in its remaster, the Pigeon got a smaller 550cc engine in its remaster, and the Wydra exists, so all the "gameplay reasons" for the Picco having such a big stock engine in 2018 don't make as much sense now.)
A Lot of members of BeamTeam are online tonight. Report in ten minutes: Now 24 BeamTeam members are online.
Apart from many devs being American, this also shows something else: BeamNG respects different car cultures from ours (quite a few of us Europeans are culture/badge snobs and elitists, after all, especially when it comes to Americans and many of their products) and strives to depict them as faithfully as possible in the Beamverse! I understand the way you wrote your notice, that's why I mentioned the Boxers! So yeah, now waiting for it to be released!
Spring sale is up. Ends on 20th, there is a slight chance we might get update next week. Because of the windows news and recency of teasers. But looking at how last 2 updates were on april, i do think this is bit too optimistic, but we will see.
