So i was wondering if BeamNG was going to take a stab at caterpillar tracks like what the abram tank runs on. I have seen it done in RoR, but i didnt know if it could be done in this new tech demo, the ability to simulate tracks a high speeds and the ability to not get high centered. in the future will be fine at the moment include tanks are not a priority, wait a bit to this whole thing before adding more advanced tanks planes helicopters boats and other ...
There is @MRcrash 's Rotech 830 bulldozer mod. It showcases a method of propelling a tracked vehicle without the use of thrusters, and also provides insight into how such a vehicle could be controlled in-game. However, the Jbeam structure used for the tracks sort of "cheats" by simulating the segmented steel links of a caterpillar track as a single continuous piece (more like a rubber track). This works okay, barring the occasional moment where it gets inexplicably stuck in the ground, but I have a feeling that the devs would probably want to simulate tracks as a series of segments wrapped around roadwheels, and that number of parts colliding with and/or resting on each other would probably cause tremendous lag spikes in the current version of the game.
No we're talking about your thread bump here. You found one of the older threads here and bumped it back up to the surface. Heck idk what is right anymore on the forums... You bump a thread and you're evil, you post a new topic for something that was talked about ages ago and you're demonized... Idk. gg
and to help more it would need anything that is intractable to be used --- Post updated --- well... i really thought humanity existed, im just saying if people made a plane so good like the me262 it should have been made
if im correct, then youre saying someone should make an me262, which they have. https://www.beamng.com/resources/me262.2598/ if not, then oh well.
well... i really thought just saying that thrusters aren't that hard to make and y x and z axis execute commands i mean congrats to who did make a plane but that can have even more use like working paddle tires but it would take skill for modeling
is anyone on the tanks yet --- Post updated --- sure but if you do that it will sometimes clip through making it not gain traction because tires in the game do not collide with things like fenders
I'm not concerned with the treads colliding with fenders - I'm more concerned about how the parts of the tracks will interact with each other. Every link has to interact with every Roller and Idler (I used the more generic term roadwheel for them above, as well as being propelled by the large drive sprocket on top. If each object was a separate JBeamed object, the amount of parts colliding with each other (particularly the sprocket teeth colliding with the inside of the links) would likely result in lagging.
sure but if you do that it will sometimes clip throu beamng drive does not follow that much physics pistons don't exist and gas isn't there so it wouldn't work that way but nice try --- Post updated --- maybe a chain link like idea the flail and two vehicle chain increase grip, widen, and change the texture, make it link with hidden tow hitches it would work and yes the binding would be one or all of the arrow keys --- Post updated --- im just mad that people are not as smart as to make a chain like track
