and then us and the mad scientist will rip apart the block and replace the PISTON RINGS they fried OT: that "new" ride gives me lots of "auriga heron" vibes
Very veryy hyped for the new car...would be neat to see if it gets wooden spoke wheels or not, and hopefully we get some new tire companies or even older firwood co tires
I've been saying for years the accessory companies (+ Kentarch) really need some attention; a hot rod would be a great excuse to turn Adler into a Mooneyes type company. They could have all sorts of hot rod and drag racing aftermarket parts for this car
You're absolutely right about that in theory. I'm talking from a development perspective. The D series is the oldest vehicle in game, and has had literally over a decade for parts and configs to be added. The sheer amount of work that would be needed to add more parts and configs than the D series already has just wouldn't be worth it to the developers. It'll ship with probably 10-15 configs, then pick up a few more here and there, but I can't see it overtaking the D series.
It looks like those Japanese luxury cars from the 50s --- Post updated --- and I think it will be from the Burnside brand, because it's been years since there's been a new Burnside
The concept of unsynchronized transmission should be used among the older BeamNG cars. Especially this, the Special and the Piccolina could definitely have it! As for losing some of its appeal, I bet those people will be the same ones who hate the Wydra simply because "it doesn't turn", "it doesn't absorb any potholes" and "it burns its clutch trying to turn while being still". In other words, neither do they know how to drive it, nor have they ever cared to learn how to drive it. Sorry for roasting, but that's just the way it is.
A transmission without synchromesh would be a great idea, especially on this upcoming pre-war car. Those who can't/don't have the setup for it can just use arcade setting and still drive it no issue. I guess you could say it "grinds my gears" when people complain about certain realistic elements in BeamNG.drive. The game is SUPPOSED to be as realistic as possible. You want 1 million hp supercars that shift perfectly and stick to the road like glue? Go play Forza or The Crew and take your Lunchly and Prime with you.
TBH the clutch assistant already does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to shifting without a third pedal.
As a Wydra main who enjoys how realistic it is to drive (and how different it is to drive compared to all the other cars in the game), I'm very glad that the devs decided not to make it "normal". There are plenty of other off-roaders or off-road-capable vehicles in the game, for those who don't want to use the Wydra. If this '30s car gets a crash-box, it'll probably join the Wydra as one of my main vehicles to trundle around in. Speaking of the Piccolina, I remember there was a big fuss about that car's engine size and power rating compared to its contemporaries - the devs said that making a realistically-sized and -powered engine for the Picco would make it "too slow", so the 1.1L engine was kept as the base model for "gameplay reasons". I argued back then that a realistically-slow Picco would still be plenty useable - especially compared to the Wentward. With the introduction of the Stambecco and especially the Wydra almost two years ago, that "gameplay reasons" argument doesn't really stand as strongly. I'm a bit surprised the devs never bothered adding a smaller engine for the Picco, considering they were willing to add the SBR engines in it a while back.
Am all for realistic ( crash box's ) IF you REALLY dont want to use the NON-synchro, Then you can do as follows. 1 add the auto/later manual from the hot rod version ( am sure there will be a hot rod. ) So keep the stock look just add the easy later box. be it auto or manaul. 2 arcade mode. 3 use a later car, Of crorse as someone who is mad for old cars more so pre war. I will adore a NON-synchro, ( funny i say all that yet i own a 2024 mazda 3 sedan in red lol )
There was a Ford Model T at the first 24 hours of Le Mans, but for sure it would be unlikely. Despite this, even if it isn't a Le Mans car, a speedster would be a cool body style. I'm also hoping that with it being a 1928, it's a more "normal" driving system. While a Model T driving system would be super cool, I think it would be the wrong era considering even stubborn Ford abandoned it a year prior. Back to the speedster though, having a handmade body on the normal frame would be super cool (don't worry, the guy flying is Soichiro Honda, he turned out ok)
I am surprised that some older cars and the T-series have synchro transmissions because in beam you can't float gears which is something you can do irl in some vehicles.
As far as I've heard, the current gearbox system doesn't support non-synchro gears apart from reverse atm, so it's likely that they will update it so you can change it in the J-beam. Depending on how much freedom they decide is needed, it may be possibly to have specific gears be unsynchronised while others are.
Which means you can do a Rover SD1 in current BeamNG Trust me I have one British Leyland update when?
