You were building a PC on a tight budget, and now you're spending $100 on a keyboard? Just buy some $10 rubberdome POS and spend the extra money on a better PC, you can change the keyboard later. I've been gaming on a shitty rubberdome for years with no problems.

They have their uses, web browsing and... Nothing else really. But not gaming. And if it's hackintosh (a PC running OSX) you can easily dual-boot into Windows.

Really though, give me one good reason to use a desktop Mac. Just one.

My god that's ignorant as shit. Photo editing, video editing, music production, servers (using Mac OSX Server), still a decent gaming library (You ever venture through the Mac OS section of Steam?)...
Want me to go on? Ok, I shall.

NAS, network management, web design, programming, music streaming, 3D modeling (CAD for those inclined), blogging, word documents, presentations, spreadsheets, native multi-touch support, native support to view .psd (Photoshop) files, native support for 7zip archives, multi-mac network sharing (native), built in ScreenCast recording software, native support for high resolution screenshots, native 5K display (5K iMac), low risk of viruses (they still exist though), native support for encrypted folders, native support for PDF creation, Time Machine backup software (native), built in dictionary (come on, Microsoft, get with the program), you can make phone calls on a Mac (no Skype needed), instant messaging (no Skype needed), build quality....

Oh, you can run Windows on a Mac too, why not get the best of both worlds?

    Enough reasoning for you?

    Re: General discussion chat

Photo, video, and audio editing are no better than in Windows. Servers are Linux and that's it. Gaming, Windows has all Mac has and much much more.

Again, nothing Windows can't do, and it's not better in Mac. In fact, programming is better in Windows because Visual Studio. Blogging? Lel, I could do that from my phone.

Mac comes with a bunch of things pre-installed, yes, nothing you can't install on Windows. Right now I only have a half-valid reason to use Mac over Windows if I'm too lazy to install a bunch of software.
As for viruses, you must be a real dumbass to get viruses on Windows. I haven't got one in over 4 years.

Aaaand typical Mac excuse. Yes, Apple products are well built. Are we talking hardware here? Nope. Even if we were, I've never had an issue with one of my PC builds other than my only ever MSI motherboard dying. If you choose the right parts and are not-stupid enough to build your PC properly, it will be as reliable as any Mac, and if something does break you can change that part instead of taking the computer to Apple and getting your wallet raped.

So, you've given me only one reason to choose Mac over Windows: Pre-installed software. Which is only valid if you're so lazy not having to install a few programs overweighs the much wider program availability of Windows.

And don't even talk about system stability, I have only had one Windows crash in 4 years and it was my fault for installing outdated video drivers.

In terms of materials, iPhones superior to almost everything on the market (excluding the One m8, etc)- but not $400 superior.

This macbook is probably the best built computer I've ever used.
It's so much better built than anything else out there, especially new stuff.
What it's designed to do, it does really well. It runs smooth, never gets caught up on anything, everything is so buttery smooth and works so well. The best web browser I've ever used. It's absolutely great for that.
    That being said.
The os is rather limiting, and, like *irock* said, shiny. The biggest issue I find is compatibly. Everything is designed for, and only runs on windows. So much easier to find programs on windows computers because everything runs on windows. It's exactly why I'm reviving this old inspiron from the dead, because there's a lot of stuff this mac can't do.
These computers are also expensive as shit. I've said it before, but; 1k for a laptop that doesn't do a whole lot.

In terms of actual physical toughness the iPhone's screen is very easy to crack compared to most Android flagships or Nokia Lumia devices.

I would buy a Mac just for GarageBand if they fixed all of this. I paid $800 for my Laptop and it would probably keep up with a $1200+ Mac.

Mixcraft, not exactly like garageband, but it does the job good, and its a helluva lot cheaper than a mac.

Apple laptops are very well built but very fragile. Lenovo Thinkpad laptops can take a serious beating and still work just fine.
OSX is a good OS until you hit the walls, and there are plenty of those. Besides, it's too shiny. I don't like that. In terms of desktop PCs, I'd much rather have my gaming rig over any Mac. In laptops, I'd rather have an old 1st gen intel core 'banger' laptop running Win7 than a shiny new Macbook, because it can take a beating and being a laptop I know it will.

I've been using Audacity. I use the headphone jack on my amp and plug it into my computers mic input.

This. Awesome performance to price ratio. My Y510P is 20 months old now and still not even a hiccup.

You have to change your avatar, not your profile pic. Also, welcome to the forums.

2010-2012 thinkpads are the toughest things ever. I saw one get slammed by a car door (slammed hard shut) and it worked just fine. Screen cracked, was replaced, all right. A Macbook would've bent and destroyed the mainboard. And any other laptop would've probably just got rekt.
